Cooling system flush

We are in process of refitting Abracadabra. When I was looking over the air conditioner installation, I found more water hoses and valves down in the bilge than I thought should be there. After tracing out the lines and valves, what they did was plumb it so that the air conditioner heat exchanger could be purged with potable water out of the bow water tank when  the A/C was not in use. Seems like a great idea- Why aren't we doing this with our engine cooling systems?

would only take a tee and a valve, shoot I may do that on Moolight Mile.

That's how they did it on Abracadabra. They put a tee in the line from the bow tank, a plastic valve, then tee'd in to the seawater supply line for the A/C just downstream of the seacock. With the A/C running, you shut off the seacock and open the freshwater valve. Let the A/C run a couple of minutes, then shut it down. So when it is not being used, the heat exchanger and pump have fresh water in them. Seems like a good thing to do for our engine heat exchangers too. It should cut down on corrosion and marine growth...
