I had 2 different 365's. The first one had a 2 blade prop, the second had a 17X10 3 blade. The difference in reverse was daylight and dark. The boat with the 2 blade you really had to be careful and start backing earlier. We were in a slip with a bulkhead in front. I never hit it, but a couple of times I thought we were gonna. When we got the second boat, I started backing at the same distance. I had to nudge it forward to get it in the slip. Abracadabra backed down MUCH better.

That's a new one on me. Are you sure all the battery connections are tight and clean?

Bleed the heck out of it with the procedure Garner has on his page. Close off the engine seacock first! If that doesn't do any good, pull the seawater pump and see if the drive for it turns when you crank the engine. It drives off the same gear that drives the injection pump.

We have been running it to charge batteries when we didn't get enough from the solar panels.

Even though we have a 200 lb dinghy on the foredeck (with room to walk around it), even though Wanda has enough groceries shoehorned into the stbd aft cabin to sink the waterline back there, even as badly trimmed and overloaded as we are, we can still do a horizon job on most cruising monohulls. You can set your drink down anywhere and it stays put until you pick it up. The queen size bed ain't bad either. Helluva condo...

Give us some history- did the overheat start when you replaced the oil cooler? Which heat exchanger do you have- is it mounted crossways on the back of the engine? Have you done any cooling system replumbing other than changing the oil cooler? There should be a seawater strainer mounted next to the vee drive- check the basket in it. Do you have a Velvet Drive or Paragon?

We are having raw water pump problems. Ours has a worn housing and now it's time to replace. Yanmar uses proprietary pumps so you have to buy it from them. We should have a new one in 7-10 days. In the meantime, we'll just have to hang out at Matagorda Island.

If you remove the Brit fittings, I think you will find pipe threads behind them. They can build hoses with a swivel fitting on one end or both. The swivel fittings cost a bit more, but may make them easier to install. You will have to have a swivel fitting on at least one end.

They are available- somebody on here ordered one and then didn't need it. I checked the chandlery section and didn't see it there.

You have part numbers- I'd call the local Westerbeke dealer and price them. You may can get hydraulic hoses built for less money.

I have a dead engine here with an engine oil cooler on it. Abracadabra had a combined engine oil/ transmission oil cooler and a velvet drive transmission. If it is an engine oil cooler it is easy to identify. The oil hoses go straight to the filter base.

If the oil cooler is leaking to the outside, you probably do not have water in the engine. When you get water in the engine is when it starts to leak to the oil side inside the cooler. There are no outward signs, suddenly the engine crankcase has water in it. Having said that, you do need to verify there is no water in the crankcase. Changing the cooler is not a big deal. The worst part is going to be getting at it. It is going to be difficult to see what you are doing.

I built and installed a 2M system from RParts in Abracadabra. It is a water cooled system, teed in to the forward thruhull and discharges through the starboard deck scupper, so no additional holes in the boat. It is a hybrid system in that it is a 12v compressor/condensor unit cooling a pretty big (C option) holding plate. The plate operates between 0 and 10 degrees. I built a spillover so that about 1/3 of the box is a freezer. It took some tinkering and tuning to get it optimised, but it did a good job. www.rparts.com

Does it matter whether the engine is in gear or not? The mounting hardware for the strut is under there.

The chainplates on the main backstay are equally loaded because of the split in the backstay. Evidently the weaker one let go. That could have turned bad quick- no other damage?
We were watching the tracking page. It looked like you turned to go back toward Galveston, then entered Matagorda Bay. We suspected something had gone wrong.
