I have a source I think for Paragon Transmission re-build it's the old core exchange system but they are less than $1000.00 if any one is interested let me know they have two on stock!

Your message comes at a great time. My Paragon is presently being "looked at" in Maryland. They've had it since 10/19 and when I spoke to the owner he tells me they think it will cost $2,000 to $2500.

Here is the skinny, I should not jump so quickly it was my son in law that said he had seen these transmissions and they were Paragons.

I visited the shop today and the are not Paragons and they do not service Paragons. What they have is two refurbished B&W Velvet drives they are asking $800 ea.

Questions just a little off topic...
On my paragon tranny.....I tried to shift it with out the engine running and it is difficult will go forward toward galley but not to the aft toward the cockpit.....I am going to crank the engine this weekend...I hope it works well then...but is this normal...to not shift easily with the engine not running.....

I've never had a problem shifting in either direction engine running or not.
Perhaps a bit more detail will make it possible to help you. What do you mean by not shifting forward?  The shift lever (If you have a Edson pedistal ) is either up or down. Down for reverse and up to forward. In forward you feel a click locking it in.  Reverse does not lock you hold it down for however long you need to go that way.
It might be a good idea to take off the cover plate on the transmission and see if infact the gears don't move. DO NOT DO THIS WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING!!!!! You'll have #30 oil all over the place.

   I take it you are trying to move the arm on the gearbox,if so this will be tight as you are moving the cable/shift leaver back-to-front,if you are using the shift lever on the wheel mount then some times it will not go into forword gear with-out the engine running,also the oil is cold and thicker making it slower and stick'ier

Let me restate my condition...lol...I bought #193 several months ago.  The Edson pedestal was missing.  The replacement pedestal...yacht something, did not have the shifting levers on it.    They could not be installed. I have mounted a single handle dual action side mount shifter.  The old edson cable would not fit on the new shifter.  I bought a Teleflex Red jaket C33.  It is not as sturdy as the Edson red cable.  I have not hooked it up yet, this weekend.  But with the cable not attached, I can not move the shift arm on the gear box, what I feel is the complete range.  But I have not tried with the engine running.  I will do that tomorrow if I can get the idle adjusted and the tach hooked up.

Hey there everyone.....to all a merry Christmas and happy New Year....
I just bought an used Edson Pedestal.  I had to order the cable holder that fits inside the pedestal to attach the teleflex cables.  I have the original throttle cable but I do not have the shifter cable.  If anyone has the paragon tranny with the Edson pedestal, what name and brand of cable is used?

I have the Paragon trani with an Edison pedestal and just took a walk to see if I could identify the shifter cable.  Unfortunately there are no noticeable markings on the length of the jacket that is exposed and easily observed.

Have you attempted to contact Edson?  They have a rather complete data base on all kinds of boats and what they put into them.  They may just be able to look back and provide you with not only the correct cable but the correct end fittings.

The cable WM sales is the C33 or 3300 C Teleflex red jaket and it is not strong enough.

Update....so far it looks like it is the 60 series cables and Edson thinks it is the 64.  Which the length of 4 inch push/pull added to the series number.  Now I just have to try and figure out the length of cable.  I bought a used Edson pedestal and ordered a new cable holder mechanism to go inside.  So please keep up the support of info.  Next is cable length and where to order.......This site is like talking with a bunch of old friends...it is a comfort...Billy
