Ok y'all

Anyone used Poly Glow?

Well I have just got my consignment of the stuff and will report my findings once applied.

Here is what I know so far:

The kit comes with gloves (jury still out on them) poly prep a solution you mix with up to three parts water and is desigend as a pre was to clean the surface in preperation for the poly glow and an applicator for both.

Ok so Moonlight Mile has this brownish looking stain at the water line and above raising in height at the bow. Well the poly prep did not touch this stuff.

Read the instructions again!! seems they also have a product that is white powder called Poly Ox removes brown water stains rust etc.
My good wife has a product under the sink that is called Bar Keepers Freind that says it does the same thing (and is OK on FRP)! OMG how well this works its untrue! my hull has never looked so clean (dull but clean)

So long story short I need to complete the cleaning on the port side re-do with the poly prep and will then use the poly glow.

Again I will report the results but if the Bar Keepers Freind is any indication and the poly glow does half of what they say it will she should look great.

Before and after pics! We use Bar Keeper's Friend too- good stuff.

I have been using Turtle Wax zip wax car wash for many years. It does make things shine. You can get a gallon of concentrate at Wal Mart for less than 10 bucks. Use it like any other soap and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing. We try to wash Abracadabra with it every couple of weeks.

I used Poly Glow years ago on my '78 Pearson 28. (I've had Windrider since '98)
The most critical issue is preparing the surface. Any blemishes will become polished blemishes after the coating is put on.
The other thing I found was that it was a bitch to get off after a couple of years.
That said, the old gal looked pretty good. Not Awlgrip, but ready for the dance.

I just got my Polyglo in the mail....after reading your comments, I will do an all out kick my hinny cleaning....thanks for that tip.  I have a 1978 that is dull and dirty...I am excited about the out come and will report back here.  I wonder how the polyglo will do on the painted strip portions.

Dont. It is beautiful when properly applied but terrible to get off when it ages.

More info...Wedelstein, how long on the age thing, months, years?
Can it be reapplied over the aged coat?

I purchased polyglo but have not applied it yet....there is some concern on the Pearson 365 web site that once it ages, it is hard to get off.....if this true or what is the answer to removing it when it's life has expired and it is time to remove or redo...........Billy

This from the Polyglo Company....

Billy,
We have Poli Strip for the removal of Poli Glow, it is an aerosol spray and works fast
Remove and re apply every 4- 5 years,.

Thank you, Todd Bryant

Billy,

Based on my experience (over 10 years ago) The Poly Glow did not last more than two years. At that time they had a cleaner that was in the same type of platic bottle the Poly Glow came in. It was a very strong cleaner, but even with that not all of it came off. When I reapplied the Poly Glow the finish ended up with a shiney but flaky like finish. It  wore off at the places where I hung my bumpers after one season.
I think Practical Sailor did some tests on it and found the shine to be very good. I dont know if they did any aging tests.

Hope this helps.

Poliglow generally does not need to be removed. You wipe on one or two
additional "maintenance" coats once a year to make up for what has
worn away. My present boat had Poliglow on it when I bought it, and
after 6 years, it was still absolutely fine. At that point I stripped
it only because whoever did the original application didn't do a
really great job of cleaning first. It was very easy to strip using
the supplied "Poly Prep". You spray it on, scrub a little with a
scotchbrite pad and rinse. The Poly Prep essentually "melts" the
poliglow. You can see it turn to liquid and start sagging almost as
soon as the Poly Prep contacts it.

Penetrol is not at all similar to Poliglow.

I've been using it with good success for a few years. Many folks on the
Catalina 30 list use it also and are almost uniformly happy with the
results.

I've heard a few complaints about the difficulty in removing it but that has
not been true in my experience. I had to remove the Poliglow on the port and
starboard quarter to have lettering put on the boat and it was not difficult
to remove using the Poliglow remover.

More on site..............

Mine worked well..........time will tell...
but for now... I would reuse it.....

I see a reply from Alan Gomes, or might be a copy from the Catalina 30 site, if it is Alan let me know, I just sold my Cat 30 for a 365, did you also.

I have to put in a plug for Aqua-Buff. A boatyard contractor here in Fort Lauderdale turned me on to it a couple years ago. I wash the hull well, including an acid wash with On-Off. You brush the product on a small area, then machine buff it off. We're a 1981 with original gelcoat. I've had the boat in South Florida since 1996, but everyone assumes we've Alwgriped the hull and they're shocked to learn it's original gelcoat. I am a believer in this product.

Would PoliGlow be the right product to use to remove heavy oxidation and restore the shine of old gelcoat above decks? If it is, is there a follow-up treatment to keep the gelcoat looking good? My boat is a 1980 and topsides look it!
