Ok Y'all

How much space do you gain by opening up the space under the stove? I am thinking of cutting out that area and utilizing the storage space, but do not want to go to the effort if it's not worth it.

Any advice as always appreciated.

Hi ,there is quite a lot of space under there,I fitted a hinge down door and all my pots and pans live in there, also good place to keep things cool as it is next to the hull, wine, ect. anuther good place is infront of the water tanks

My 1979 came from the factory with a drop down door over a cut out.

Also some good space below the shelf under the nav station.

Ed, our first boat had a cutout and teak door under the nav station. There is a good bit of useable space there. Our current boat has a cutout and teak door under the stove, there is more space there.

My layout is different with the pilothouse, but I have cut out the panel under the stove carefully and then edged the panel to match the other doors. That became a drawer front, it gave us a long shallow drawer. I also had a drop down panel on the nav station that I turned into a drawer using the panel as a drawer front. I was able to match the finger pulls with two different sized hole saws on a piece of mahogany so it all looks quite "factory". :)

Mine already has a door. Not a very "Friendly" place, and I am guessing it could get wet if you were rails in the water with anything in the bilge. However, I found it  agreat place to store otherwise waterproof stuff, such as the West Marine manual bilge pump
