Diesel Filler question

Has anyone moved or considered moving the position of the diesel filler, or are there other configurations out there? Mine is on the center line in the cockpit just forward of the helm, I have teak grates in the cockpit that must be removed (lifted) when fueling.

If I do nothing else with the filler location I am at least going to raise it an inch or so to be above the grates.

Mine is on the side walkway, all the way back by the coaming, which makes it a total pain to use, and ensures that if I ever spilled any, it would go right out the nearby deck drain and cost me a fortune.

If yours is directly over the tank inlet, then it might be there on purpose so that you can use a dip stick to measure it (e.g. 1/2x1/2 stick or a dowel). That was what I did on my old Ranger as there was no guage. Might be a backup method in case your guage ever failed.

Ed, you should be able to cut a hole in the grating and then frame it with some small pieces of teak. We have the same setup as you, except somebody already modified the grating.

Hey guys thanks.

The grate needs re-building anyway so maybe better to just raise the filler and make the new grate fit, & yes my only method of gauging the tank is with a dip stick.

PS did you splash your boat Ray?

RayNWanda

We got her splashed Monday. Still lots to do, but at least she does float.
