Hi guys,  I need some advice on tranny replacement.  I currently have an old paragon.  Should I try to repair it(boils fluide, hard to put in gear).  I am currently working on the V-drive, well Im sending to walter for a tune up.  What are good replacement options.   OR Who can I send this tranny to for rebuild.   ???  Thanks  Good sailing!!!

Mine was re-built buy previous owner in FL I am out of town right now but could look it up for you when I get home at the weekend, seem to think the cost was $1500.00 or so, mine runs great so I assume they did a good job.

My Paragon needed a lot of help a few years ago so I called Paragon about new parts. I was told I could buy the belts from them at a vary high price or take the belts to a brake shop and have them re-lined for a fraction of the cost. Which I did. It should be noted that the shop did have to grind them down to the right thickness.

Paragon also sent me a copy of the shop manual and how to adjust the belts.  This is not rocket science, this transmission is based on the same transmission that was in a Ford model T.  Set the forward belt were it  pops in and stays, but the reverse belt must be set were you hold it down. If it is not set this way the belts work against each other and over heat and wears the linings out.

Hope this help.

The transmission should not be getting hot. This sounds like the forward cluch is slipping. Take the cover off and you find on the gear assembly a locking screw. Remove it and you can rodate a large coller that positions the cluch dogs. You should feel a noticable snap when you put the transmission in forward. moving the coller a few postions will put more presser on it in forward.
