Diesel heater install?

I'm starting to look at where I will install a Dickinson Alaska diesel heater. So far it looks like I'll place it in front of the ice box facing the bow. I have seen some located on the port side on the shelf or bulkhead behind the hanging locker.  That location would be out of the way but not sure I could get enough flue height. The manual recommends 3-4 feet of flue.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated before I start cutting holes in my cabin top.

Leo, I installed a High Seas diesel heater actually attached to the sail track on the aft side of the mast. I don't think it's made anymore. It's pretty central in the boat and low, heat rises, just above the floor. Used a heat shield on the shower bulkhead, a finned flew pipe with a 12V fan to circulate. This kept us warm while living on the boat 2 years in Maryland.

Leo,
Sorry I'm in Florida now and that heater is long gone lol.

Leo,

Did you ever install that heater?

The heater has been great to have. I had to go with a higher flow/pressure pump because of the distance from the fuel tank to the heater. I love the heat it put out and the glow from the flame. Starting it can be a pain and it works better if you clean it
after every 2 or 3 days of use. If I were to do it again I might go with a forced air type from webasto or Espar.
The link below has a photo of it and a short story about Sol.
Is it possible to cut and past a photo to this? Using a link to photobucket is a pain.

Good picture of the heater installation.  We just finished the purchase of Polaris, another Pearson from the Pacific Northwest.  She came up to Alaska about 10 years ago.  Her heater isn't working, because it isn't getting fuel.  I haven't diagnosed why yet, but the pump is making noise, but no fuel comes out.  Maybe a bad pump.  I am curious about which pump you used on Sol and if you installed it at the fuel tank end, or up at the heater.

Our heater is bulkhead mounted next to the main mast on the wall.  The pump is not the one sigmar recommends.  In my opinion, the smoke stack is sort of close to the mast for comfort, but the hole is there now.

Getting he heater working is sort of high on my list, we are in Alaska after all and eventually the Pineapple Express we have been enjoying will run out of steam.

I installed the Walbro heavy duty pump with the regulator at the fuel tank. The pump is listed below. So how do you post photos directly to your post?

Thanks, I'll give that a try once I get a chance to do some of the other basic diagnostic stuff, like make sure the line isn't plugged and the pump is getting fuel.

On posting, it's just using it he "IMG" link in photo bucket.  I think if this site kept all the photos, the file size on the server would explode. Photobucket is a bit of a pain until you sort out how it works.  I am doing it on my iPad and this is what it looks like..

Just copy and paste the link in the IMG window into your reply.
