Well....one of the victoms of the Baja Bash was my bow deck hatch.  The hatch hindge broke and is unrepairable...so I'm now looking for two new deck hatches.

Has anyone replaced the deck hatches that can point me in the right direction?

Thanks

I have them in the store if you want to look at them.  Let me know if you find any other candidates.

Thanks Marc.  I like the alum ones.  I was hoping to find something with the cross spports like the orginals with my two kids running around deck...but these could work.  The deck openings are righ under 20" square....yet another "surprise" project!

Thanks

I have a Lewmar Ocean 60 I bought off Ebay that I am installing as a bow hatch this spring. It was $200, but it needs a bit of refurb work (nothing I am not up for!)

I always look on Ebay first.

I was looking at Bomar almost exactly like the orginal and then YIKES I saw the PRICE....$928ea from Hamilton Marine!!!  There has got to be a cheaper option....

Winsome

I just replaced both deck hatches on Winsome with Maxwells...I am very pleased and the cost was much less than Bomars or other options.

Can anyone tell me the thread size for the thumb nuts on the original Bomar hatches. The thumb nuts need to be replaced on my new boat but I was thinking of just using hex nuts to get her home across the Gulf from FL to TX. They look like 5/16 unc!

I had the same problem on INTERIM. I ended up drilling out the holes and packing them with JB Weld. Then I drilled and tapped them to match thumb screws I bought at a local H.D. They lasted through Katrina and stii work today.

Ed,

I am not sure of the size but most West Marine stores carry parts for the Bomar hatches. If there is one near you may want to try them...

I replaced both hatches with Lewmar Ocean 60's. I was actually able to drop them right in without an ounce of grinding.

Shopping is the key to these. While I do like working with West Marine on some things, because I know they honor stuff 100%, dealing with their markup was not an option on these. I searched and found that while Mauri-Pro sailing does not keep them in stock, they do order them right away and will have them for you in less than 2 weeks. I saved somewhere around $350/hatch going this route.

One thing to note is that the flange through which the screws go is nearly 1/2" smaller than the original, and so the screw holes all show. I cured this by first bedding a custom made "ring", that was exactly the size of the old flange out of Star -board (poly board), and then bedding the Ocean 60 on top of that, screwing through both into the deck. I love the light, and the ease of operation.
