That's the Awlwood I was talking about.  Makes varnishwork look way better than could be gotten with a conventional tung oil varnish.  The companionway boards, hand rails & shroud rollers came out the same way.  If you really want to guild the lilly, after the final coat you hand finish with 1000 grit paper.  The stuff ain't cheap though... $80 for a quart of primer and another $80 for the finish.  For my purposes & for the quality of finish I'm looking for Awlwood blows the doors off other varnish finishes, especially for teak, I've used over the years.  Speed of coat build-up is faster too; I did 8 to 10 coats in a week.

The test will be how well it holds up and what you have to do for a maintenance coat or... a strip off and recoat.

Big Shannon ketch next to me at the yard Awlwood'ed his bowsprit 3 years ago and looks perfect.   Hasn't done anything to it since.  Seeing his bowsprit is what lit the fire under me to do Amity's.
