It's been proposed that I mount the Raymarine masthead wind
unit atop the mizzen mast instead of atop the main mast. FYI this
apparent wind sensor data on the seatalkng backbone is used
by the autopilot in wind mode.

Any opinions on this are welcome and appreciated.

Pete,
Sounds good to me.  Yes the mizzen end of the boat may see a slight "header" off of the main while sailing close to the wind but it is all relative.

Dale,
As it turned out the old masthead unit wiring was not seized
up inside the main mast. So it made an usable messenger for pulling
the new cable. Getting a cable down the mizzen would not have
been that simple.

Ran the wiring for the raymarine wind unit to an ITC-5. With a seatalkng
backbone the  I70 multifunction Display is extremely versatile.
