Dinghy davits

I am hours away from becoming the proud owner of a 365 Ketch.  I have noticed stern pulpit slot brackets on the vertical posts.  These seem to be for supporting a small dinghy from pictures I've seen of other 365s.  Is there anyone out there who might know a source where I might get the dinghy davits that fit this slot arrangement?  The vetical stern is ideal for launching and recovering a dinghy.
Thanks,
Dave

Congradulations on the 365 Dave and WELCOME to our cool little Pearson 365/367 Yacht Club.

I have seen a 365 using the mounts...I think on Yachtworld.  If you already haven't, I search all the time for Pearson 365's and check out the photos...lost of ideas!

Talk about a GREAT Christmas Gift.....Just how do you get it under the Tree?

Dave,  I have the same conectors on S/V Baba D but could not find anything to fit so I bought The Nova Davit System from All Inflatables .com for $853.00.  It mounted just fine by thru bolting through the stern rail.  You may check out pictures on the old site of the original davits that came on the P365. Mine has been just installed so I have not had an opportunity to try it out. It looks great.  Good luck,

My P365 came with the Pearson stock davits when we bought her in 2003. They looked flimsy.  I tried my Dyer dink on them once and they were terrible, very unstable.  I had a yard cut off the holders for the brackets on the stern rail.  I put the davits up for sale at Bacons in 2005 and I think I saw another pair there.  I do not think mine ever sold.  I have a rib inflatable which I hoist with the spinnaker halyard and boom vang tackle to the foredeck, but my wife would like davits.

I also have the mounting brackets already affixed to my stern rail verticals. There is also a set of wooden davits I have as of yet to install to see how they look.

I was surprised to find them made of laminated wood. They look pretty neat. Don't have a clue if they were made by somone or part of the boat when it was purchased new? Anyone have any idea's?

I would like to know how much weight I can apply to them. Initailly I'm thinking they should be good for at least 45-50 Lbs each for a total 85-100lbs total.

Leo,
My boat has the brackets on the vertical posts as well, however one of the top ones is torn off.  The weld looked good which leaves me to believe that they are not designed to carry all that much weight.  I think I am going to fabricate a new one and weld it on to support a solar panel across the stern.  Good luck.  Dale Tanski

I Had mine made out of SS 1"pipe with a cross member for support and for added mounting space. It clears the mizzen boom by a few inch's. I have a walker bay 10 with a stowed sailing rig ,under a full sunbrella cover that hangs nicely off SIRENA's stern. We live aboard during the summers and live in the mooring feilds, so davits make sense for alot of reasons for us.

INCOMMUNICADO

David,Welcome.I also have the original dinghy davits but don't know the MFG.I think at one point I read they are rated for about 300 lb.I use mine for solar panels.I don't believe the davits are a safe place for the dink for offshore work.I too load the dink (10' RIB) on the fordeck.Allen

Here is a picture of the davits on Polaris.  They are folding and made by Forspar.  They aren't original. in our slip, they have the advantage allowing us to take a smaller slip that is both cheaper, and actually available.  Load limit 300 lb. for scale, the dingy is a mercury 270, 9 foot long.  Don't know how well they work yet, we haven't had a chance to use them yet. I know it's an old thread, but it's January in Alaska and we can't sail for a while, so I am a little bored:-). Dreaming about sailing.
