Propane locker

Here are the pics of the propane locker I built for my 365. It rests on a hinged shelf that allows it to tilt forward for access but stows against the transom to allow storage space. Ignore the hardware securing the case, just some line is sufficient; I had the turnbuckles lying around.

lid removed, wooden construction on right just a spacer so single tank won't slide.
The vent goes to the port coaming locker. The hose exits the box through a packing gland available from West, Defender, etc. Wiring hole calked with silicone. Top sealed with adhesive backed foam weatherstripping. The box is gas-tight but not necessarily pressure-proof since it is open to the atmosphere and prevents the propane from entering the boat's interior.

Jim,

I like the way your design tucks out of the way. I will probably go the horizontal tank route in one of my sail lockers mounted as high up as possible with something similar. A 10# horz tank is quite compact. Vertical bottles even your 10#ers seem to tall to vent above the waterline anywhere other than in the transom. I say that because of what the fine print in the regs says:

A-1.8.4 Lockers shall be vented at the bottom by a
dedicated vent, with a minimum diameter of any
component in the vent system that shall be not less than 1/2
inch (12.5 mm) inside diameter.
A-1.8.5 Locker vents shall be led outboard, without
pockets, through the hull to a point lower than the locker
bottom and above the waterline with the boat in the static
floating position.

I'm nervous about having a vent that near the waterline and one that per the specs imply cannot have an anti siphon loop. Pearson did choose the transom as the best spot for this vent as it does not go underwater when the boat heels.

Thanks for the pictures.
