I dont know about yall, but replacing the impeller is quite frustrating! compressing the new  impeller and then sliding onto shaft while properly alligning the woodruff key is next to impossible. It will make a preacher cuss! How difficult is it to remove the entire pump and replace the impeller on a bench? any pitfalls? I have a 4-108.

Hi I can only tell you how i do it,i have found an old bit of pipe just a bit smaller than the body of the pump,i fit the impeller in the pipe with all the blades facing the right way, well greased with white impeller grease,if the key is a bit loose put this in with grease as-well,line up the pipe with the body and push in the impeller, not easy but do-able.
as far as i know the spacing between the pump and the front cover is quite criticale, just make shore all the spacers are refitted, hope this helps

On my 107 I've twice replaced  the impeller and most recently the complete pump.
Removing the entire pump was a bunch easier than trying to mess with the impeller while in a physically unacceptable position.
Lining up the pump to the shaft in the engine was almost a piece of cake.

Good luck.

it was hard to replace the impeller... then the pump died, so I installed a new one.
God, could not believe how easy it was to replace the impeller.

improper lubrification, and brute force have probably scored the shaft, making it hard to replace. Maybe have you pump rebuilt or get a new one.

We have the pedestal pump used with lifeboat engines. It's not mounted on the engine, but on a base through bolted through the hull stringer. Same flow rate, but belt driven. We have a spare pump (needs rebuild). The best way to go is have a spare pump ready to install. I ordered a major repair kit for the spare pump and 2 more impeller kits here: http://www.pumpvendor.com/

OK Ray now I just have to come and see your boat, what a great idea, my tiny little mind is now thinking spare pump already plumbed in with a valve and drop on belt, how cool would that be? "cool" get it!

I can get you a picture- it may be a few days before I can get in there.

I got out of the hospital this afternoon- I plugged the femoral artery in my left leg again. The good news is that I do still have the leg.

This is the pump we have. I'll get a pic from the boat as soon as I can get in there.
