Hi everyone,

It looks like I am taking the plunge into Pearson World.  I am currently looking at and will probably purchase a Pearson 365 (1979) from a personal friend who has owned the boat since 1980.  He has kept it maintained and updated as needed.
The original engine, transmission, v drive, standing rigging & fuel tank are on the boat.  I plan to sail it down from N.Y.C. to Virginia hopefully, this fall.

I have been reading everything on your site with regard to maintenance issues that are problems like the mast step, the fuel tank etc.  You folks seem to be a tightly knit community of sailboat lovers.  You share a wealth of information.  Is there anything else that you recommend that I inspect before I attempt to bring her down on the "outside" to Virginia?

I would prefer not replacing the stainless steel fuel tank before I transport her.  I hope to have the fuel "polished" and the tank cleaned as best as possible for the trip.  I will also carry engine extras, extra fuel filters and a host of tools.
Your advice and wisdom would be most appreciated.

Thanks for your help,
Jayman

First of all Welcome, a great choice  ;D.
I would check the rigging and the sails also, it is a sailboat and will behave more sea-friendly under sail. It is cheap wind-driven and the boat was designed to sail, the motor is just auxiliary power. And yes when you plan a long distance offshore trip that means also to check the connections of the rigging and running gear in both mast heads ;)

Nice sailing
