What would you store to install later?

I know that is a super general question, and the answers would vary wildly, and all depend on how I'm going to be sailing. Well, I don't exactly know as of yet.

Essentially, here is the situation. We're leaving the marina in December, and while we may dock for a few weeks, we're making the transition to living at anchor. I'm not even sure if we're going to leave the country or not. We're still about a year away from our next planned haul out time frame, but I'm not sure we'll have access to the mail or parts at that point. So the thought is that right now, time is at a premium, but money is flowing in. So I was thinking of buying some stuff and storing it for when money is at a premium, but time is plentiful. I was just curious what jobs or equipment you would want to do, or what you've experienced in your cruising. We're not going to be crossing an ocean in the next couple of years, and will probably stick with the Caribbean.

I'm thinking of things like a throughhull Depth Speed Temp NMEA 2000 sensor, anemometer (B&G maybe), autopilot (CPT - hopefully will actually be installed before we leave), wind generator (I'm still not sure about putting it on the radar platform on the mizzen - seems like it would make a mizzen staysail a bit of a pain - plus if I could mount it to the top of the mizzen mast, it'd be out of the way, plus more effective higher up like that).

So many ideas running around my head, and such a lack of ability to figure out what words to google, so thought I'd open it up for a conversation.

If I were heading out, my priorities would be as follows in order...
Sails - all new long life taffeta backed
Standing rigging - replace all with new
Engine - spares
V-Drive - rebuild
Water maker - install with consumables
Running rigging - several sets

There was a guy next to me at the boatyard and the name of his boat was "This side up" with arrows, like a shipping box would have around the name. He was sailing single-handed to Bermuda on his previous boat and going along at about 7 kts with clear sky and in the galley making breakfast. A strong wind came out of nowhere and the boat did a 360. I asked him if it de-masted the boat. He said not that one but the second 360 did. He cleared the mast with bolt-cutters, pumped out the water, and was down below trying to get the engine started when he he heard a very loud noise. He came up on deck and saw a Coast Guard plane. It was going away and he thought it hadn't seen him so he sent off a flare on it's second pass. Even though the antenna was gone, he heard the pilot on the radio say "You missed me". Lucky that his wife demanded that he get an EPIRB which he did begrudgingly.

Awesome so far! Thanks. What about winches? I think my main self tailing winches and the one for the main halyard have lost every semblance of whatever was supposed to provide grip on the line.

Also, I was thinking of getting some clutches for each mast, just so that I don't have an always occupied winch.

Unless you have or want to upgrade to self tailers (most of the time not required) just have those drums re-chrome plated. They will look like new for a fraction of the price of new winches.

Using Dale's list as a starting point. Looking into 4 or 5 new sails. High cut 130% yankee for the headsail, new main, new mizzen, and new mizzen staysail. I'm debating on a Code zero too.
All standing rigging has been replaced.
I've got spare impellers for the raw water pump. I'm going to get more spark plugs, and possibly even a spare starter. I'm going to be using flexible fuel line to move the Racor Fuel/Water separator to inside. I want to buy the CAV adapter thing so that I can use nicer fuel filters for my primary fuel filter, but I can't find where the conversation about that was, and haven't had time to look.
I haven't rebuilt the v-drive, so I'll have to research that a bit.
I have 600ft of new 3/8 running rigging.
If we get a watermaker, it's probably going to be a portable one. With this new dodger bimini, I am going to see what I can do as far as collecting water.
I'm going to be buying a CPT AutoPilot (as soon as they call me back), and need to make sure it's compatible with the Lewmar 32" Folding wheel. I'm going to try my hand at using the winches as they are, and get better at hand-tailing at the mast for the main halyard.
And then the safety equipment. We've got two Mustang Inflatables with Harness. New VHF with AIS, and two PLBs, along with an ePirb for the boat.

You might also consider packing a water filter in case your water maker fails and/or you suspect that your potable water is no longer potable.
Maybe your rainwater catchment is contaminated, but you're out of water. You can filter this water.
Also, include chemical treatments, liquid and solid forms.

The MSR MiniWorks EX or any variation of that don't work, skip that brand for water filters. They make good single-burner stoves, but not water filters.

These do not desalinate water, they just remove particles/organisms from fresh water.

Yeah, I thought about getting a ceramic filter like used for hiking. We currently have a 1 gallon filtered pitcher (with enough spare filters to last about 2 years), and we also have the RV water filters that hook up to a hose (enough to last 1.5 years) for filling the tanks. Now that you mention it, I could make an argument for getting a couple of LifeStraws, just as a last last last last resort. Also, after this first fiberglassing job gets completed (thanks for all your help btw - I need to write up the first attempts, because they were comically wrong), I need to replace the existing inspection hatch on the water tanks, and install something that won't leak water when heeled over and provides access for a scrub down (I know everyone seems to say that chemical additives is the way to do it, but I just don't feel right leaving it up to that without being able to really inspect the tank. I've been playing with the idea of having an in-tank UV light that sanitizes the water for a few hours after I add to the tanks, but we'll see. I may wind up getting a portable one, and just dropping it in the hatch for a few hours. Not sure yet. But good points. I only have 2/3 of the original tanks, but with the way our cruising season looks to be shaping up, we probably won't be more than a day sail away from fresh water for this season.
