I want to pass this on if anyone has this problem. My pump stopped working, so I bought a repair kit at CLRmarine, Jabsco Service Kit 30128-0000, for $33 with shipping.  Found out I really didn't need it. The kit consists of a piston pump seal (shaped like a cup on the plunger), a check valve ( a piece of plastic with holes and a rubber disk riveted on top), a a couple of O-rings. I took the pump apart by removing the 3 machine screws. The nuts can be accessed by removing the drawer next to the sink (5/16 socket). It's not necessary to disconnect the hose. When I took the check valve out, I found a little piece on plastic wrap and a piece of styrofoam preventing it from working. The check valve looked in perfect condition. The piston cup is a little worn but coating it with vaseline helps the suction. I guess what I really need is a screen on the inlet.

I took a fellow Pearson owner's suggestion and disconnected the icebox drain hose from the galley pump and just routed it down into the bilge.  Much simpler!

Simpler, but most likely smellier.

I just replaced my original pump this week because I was unable to rebuild the pump.  I like the pump because I can estimate the ice melt by measuring the pumped out water.  The replacement was the Whale V-MK6.

No smell problem so far and the water just gets pumped out of the bilge.

What kind of pump did you replace yours with?

The replacement was the Whale V-MK6.  I had to enlarge the hole slightly and Marine Tex the screw holes.  I additionally rerouted the hose through the partition between the sink and engine room.  It all fit.

I am wary of the shower and Ice box draining into the bilge because organic matter does not belong in the bilge, if possible.  The ice box will really smell if the water is not removed after use.

I agree about the shower pump.  If water stands in the icebox or runs into the bilge, a little bleach would solve any smell problem.  Using the pump is fine.

I have refrigeration, so there is normally no water in the bottom of the icebox.  If you decide to install refrigeration, I recommend the (Waeco) Adler Barbour Super Cold Machine.  Not that difficult to install and very reliable.  (Be sure you get the model with the controller that has no RF emissions that affect an HF radio.)
