Leaky window

Need input on how to best remove and re-bed one of the fixed windows before the next deluge.

If the boat to frame seal is leaking, it's a pretty easy fix. Remove the window and then install Bomar hatch seal. Or, instead of spending the $ for Bomar product, I used the foam tape used to install a top/shell to a pick up truck bed. Bought a roll at Autozone for like $15. My fixed ports have not leaked at drop since the repair 4 years ago. Cheers

I have all the ports out of Sea Dragon to fix the leaky ports... First of all most likely the leak is not at the point of installation (frame-to-coachroof) but how the glass was installed.



The first step is to order new gasket material for Catalina Direct (http://www.catalinadirect.com/). I do not have the part number with me but below is a picture if the gasket material during a test fit on our fixed ports.



Be careful removing the ports as the gelcoat is easily cracked and a pain to repair - see lower corner cracks.



The ports are simple enough to take apart and rebuild.



I will detail the porcess soon on Sea Dragon's website.

How can you not love this forum..?  Thank you good people for the input.  Before I got your answers I pushed the offending window out about 1/2", caulked with Boatlife and re-tightened.  I hope I won't have to regret it and take it all apart again to do it right.  If so, at least I will know how to deal with it.  Thanks again.

It is raining again - and, of course, the offending window is still leaking some.  Do you have any of the vinyl glazing channel left that you could measure for me: depth and inside width of the channel?  This is a standard glazing product that I should be able to pick up at the local window store.

Thanks Garner,

Couldn't ask for better help.  This vinyl is a slippery beast to measure and a picture is worth a thousand words, they say.  It seems to me that the channel is 7/16 from top to bottom.  The measurement given by sellers of this kind of stuff appears to be from the outside channel bottom to the underside of the channel "lip" - thus, slightly less than the overall top to bottom.

The big manufacturer appears to be C.R. Laurence Co Inc (www.crlaurence.com).  Their product D753C or possibly D752C appear to be the stuff.  I will venture out tomorrow to the window people and see what I can find.  It is supposed to be dry  and then start raining again.  If I fail I guess I will have to by the whole kit caboodle from Catalina Direct at exorbitant yacht mark ups.  Bit of an aggravation now that I am trying to get the boat ready to go cruising in the very near future.
