helm seat plan pattern

Anybody got plans or pattern for wood helm seat, say teak or mahogany.  I have looked at the vinyl ones suggested on a previous post, they are expensive, I may try to make a wooden one if I can find some plans.  I have some teak from a ripped out sorry cockpit floor grate I can dimension and use.  The one at teakflex is nice looking.

On Phantom we use a tool stepstool with a padded cushion snapped on the step to sit on while we cruise.  I use a 2x6 to make an extension in from of the aft lazarette to get the seat a little more forward.  Non-skid pads are on the legs of the stool.  This works until the seas get up and the stool will tend to slide around.

Nice thing about the tool stepstool is that there are a lot of tools and sullpies in there.

Jim S -- good idea about the stool.  I mostly need something to perch my behind on while motoring in and out of port, etc.  I guess you know you can't see a darn thing forward besides the companionway opening while seated on the stern lazarette.  My legs don't have quite the circulation they had when I was a young'un and my lower back gets stiff while standing still in one spot.  I saw a folding stool in West Marine catalog, maybe that will work, I"ll check later.

We have the folding stool, but it is light and porne to sliding around.  It does work if the water is smooth.  We also use a Taylor dock step.
