We have a Sea Wolf windlass on Ohana and can't get it to act right. It appears as though the overload thermal breaker is corrided and not allowing enough power ( 5 volts ) to the motor.
Does anyone know where I can get this overload thermal breaker? does it have to be " marine" ? or can I get it at an appliance store?
The system is 12 volts. This overload breaker was extremely corroded and obviously not in good shape. I had 12 volts at the switch and only 5 volts at the motor.

What size and type is the breaker?
There is probably a switch box too that reverses polarity on the motor to make it run both directions. You can have contact problems there too. If the contacts are arced, you may can clean them up with sandpaper.

I think it is a 37 amp breaker. It doesn't sound right , but that's what is stamped on the side. There is also a brand name of Otter.
When I went to try and sand the contacts, it fell apart in my hand ( rust ) .

Jim,
Never rule out you local NAPA store.  NAPA even has a marine part catalog.  Many marine parts can be found in a good automotive store as an exact replacement or in an automotive version.    Often automotive parts are identical however marine electrical component connection points are typically plated to reduce corrosion. 
Many marine bulbs are available from a good auto parts store as well if you are willing to hunt.  A good counter guy should be able to find something that will work for you.  Most often a workable non-marine part will also cost far less.

Yes, NAPA is pretty good about coming up with oddball "stuff" you wouldn't think they would have. Some of the other chains have only a computer database on cars and if it's not in there they can't help you. The key is a good parts counter person.
