Mine came with this.  It "Snakes" all over the place & dosn't steer a steady course. I've tried setting the options to various parameters, but it still "snakes" from 10-15 degrees back & fourth.  What settings do you folks use to get it to work?  I'm getting tired of hand-steering when motoring.

Have you increased your response setting?  When motoring we set outs at 3...but depending on sea state, we sometimes bump it up to 4 or even 5 to not see that "snake wake" behind us!

Rich,
My ST 4000 manual addresses only 2 settings for Response Setting, either 1 or 2.  I'll check it out this weekend & see if it will go to 3 or 4 or 5.  My manual says mine is a ST4000 PLUS.

Here's some of my other settings, presently on the unit:

Rudder Gain - 5
Turn Rate Limit - 40
Rudder Limit - 30
Auto Trim - 1
Variation - 11degrees W  ( This is the Variation in the Chesapeake Bay)

All of the rest are the defaults.

Are these OK?

What #'s do you use for these?

My last boat had a 4000+ which defaulted when depowred. Had to reset rudder gain every time out. Usually steered well at 3 - 5.
