Replacing Fixed ports with opening

Hello all, I'm negotiating to purchase 1977 P365 ketch.  It looks to be in great condition, however, of all the ports, only one, (in the head) is opening. Since I will be sailing in tropical zones the whole time, I'm thinking that I would want to change these out with opening ports. Probably stainless.  Has anyone done this? Can anyone advise me on 1. how much trouble it is to do and 2. where I can buy such ports that will fit?

Last year we used Newfound Metals and replaced 5 ports. They ( Newfound) were very helpful and , I felt, gave us a good price. The ports were easy to put in ( other than cleaning up the chaulking!) and look great.

She will lend you a template for your ports for $100 deposit. This makes the job much easier - and you get the $100 if you return it in 30 days. You use Butyl window tape to seal things up, make sure you use their fasteners with some lanokote to prevent seizing, and you should be in good shape, other than the dent in the wallet, of course!

any chance you guys will spill the beans on just how big a dent this makes in the wallet?  I just bought my 1978 pearson ketch (which was well loved by her previous owners) and would like to do this as well although it is not a top priority at the moment so don't want to waste time getting actual quotes.

I'll tell you right now....cooling inside the boat when it's hot....I would LOVE to have an opening port over the oven!!!!!!  But alas....I'm a poor cruiser now

If budget is a concern, I can tell you what I did. I replaced all five opening ports with exact replacements from beckson. I went out to their website, and looked at replacement screens as all mine were shot. The clear plastic wasn;t looking so hot either. Going off memory here (exact amounts in old post), i seem to recall it was around 25 for new screens. I then looked at their specials, and they were selling exact complete replacements for 30 each because they were eggshell instead of white. They then gave me some white exterioir trim rings. Turns out the eggshell matched the interior hull liner better than white would have.

The 5 that  am referring to are the smaller ones (two in the v-berth, one in th ehead, one above the handging locker across form head, one over galley). All 5 were originally opening, but were in terrible shape. I believe this is the configuring most of the 365s came in.

We replaced all the ports on Phantom in 2002 with cast bronze ports from NewFoundMetals.  They are all opening and all have screens.  Cost then was about $2200 for the items.  Getting the cabinsides ready for the ports is another matter.  We enjoy the ports immensely and consider it a very wise expenditure.
