Chain Plates

Any comments, thoughts, tips and or experiences getting to, inspecting, replacing or upgrading the chain plates on the 365 Ketch?

Anyone had any bad experiences with theirs?

During my survey on my new boat some surface corrosion was observed on the mizzen plates that were visible in the cockpit lockers.

In various locations in the cabin you can inspect the chain plates....the real issue is can you see what you NEED to see with them in place.  SS corrosion happens in an anaerobic environment (without Oxygen) so the most "critical" place to inspect is where the chain plate passes through the deck and the only way to really see it is to remove the chain plate.  I inspected mine with them in place, knowing that this was not the best approach, so it may be good enough for you also.  If I have time, I might pull them one-by-one before we cast off in 27 weeks....ya right!

Look for the information I posted in other threads in this section. Kevin at Stix-n-rign just finished re-fabricating all mine. I did all the labor aty his suggestion to avoid paying a small fortune. They are a pain, and in the head and in the closet, it takes two people ....let me know if you have no one to hold the wrench on the other end.
