Downwind Sailing

Have finally learned how to rig a appropriately sized whiskerpole for downwind sailing-what a revelation! Better speed and much less rolling. Scored a used Forespar LC-12-22 for $250. Came off a Hans Christian 38, complete with deck brackets-mounted on port deck alongside the dorado and back to the seahood so out of foot traffic on side decks.
My question is this. Right now I am only flying off the roller curling 135 (cruising config with pole lift, fore guy and afterguy)-really only need to extend a foot or two with that size sail. What do others fly for downwind sails that might require a longer extension? Reason I ask is I-could shorten the pole,
reduce some weight And have a stronger pole, but don't want to do that, if say a gennakef was in my future.

Talk to your sailmaker about it.  He's seen all sorts of combinations and may have some good advice.

Or a rigger.  Get a pro rig inspection and pick his brain for potential chutes and pole sizes while he is there.  Might save you some grief.

And congrats!  That was a nice deal on a pole set.

You could rig up an asymm with a similar pole situation and it would help to have the pole extension for deeper reaches.

The assumption is why I am hesitating on shortening the pole-no idea how long itsfoot might be. Might shop around a bit, I got the impression used downwind sails might be easy to find on the used market.
