Hi everyone, as I mentioned in my first post on here, when we purchased the boat I was led to believe the engine was a Perkins 4-108 which I wasn't afraid of because parts are easy to come by. It took me a while to figure out that the engine was actually a Westerbeke 50 which is actually a BMC 1800 (1.8 liter). These were marinised taxi engines back in the day and are very hard to get parts for. The seller of the boat alerted me to this fact by telling me he couldn't even find a fuel return line which left him stranded in the middle of nowhere when it failed.
Consequently I decide to re-power the boat. I found a turbocharged Kubota V2003 rated at 60 hp which is more than ample but with the Max prop set pretty aggressively, it pushes the boat at 6.4 knots at only 1650rpm which makes for a very quiet ride.
