It is time to have my mast pulled and replace the original mast step.  My Pearson is a 1976  ketch number 179.  I will have to have a machine shop build me a new step.  Does anyone know what mast we have and the mast specs that I can give to the machine shop.

most folks give the cut off section of the mast to the shop and they use that as a pattern to build the replacement step.

The Rig-Rite site has a lot of information on the Pearson 365 spars that were used over time and have a lot of parts.  Be advised that they price them dearly.

When my mast step rotted out I replaced it with a solid phenolic step that will never rot even when sitting in water. I was opposed to replacing mine with an aluminum part.  I bought the 3 pieces needed to build the step from an on-line plastics outfit that sells Micarta. I believe it all cost me around $175.00 I used 5 SS concrete anchors as the nut inserts that went in from the bottom. One of these nut inserts is the anchor for the tensioning rod.

Here's a drawing:

You can review how I replaced my mast step in the following thread:

I'm very happy with how this project turned out.

Thank you for your notes and I plan to cut off bottom and use it as a guide for the shop.  Wow I cannot believe you jacked up the mast.  Very impressive.  when the mast is down I plan to replace the original 1976 wire and update the lights
