Pearson 365/367 Yacht Club / Re: Engine lifter

I copied Dale's design  and successfully moved my engine in and out a few times. Because my version is based on the pictures from Dale's work and not his actual design document, there are likely differences.

1. The 29" horizonal dimension should probably be 2" shorter because I recall it hitting the fwd end of the companionway opening and/or the aft end of the lower bar scraping on the companionway threshold. I also have a very vague recollection that the 36" dimension might have been too much, but not sure. Make a cardboard mockup to test.

2. I had to move the engine onto the sole adjacent to the nav desk with this lifter, removed the lifter, then moved it up to the cockpit, then out.

3. The two lifting eyes on the lifter have to be exactly in vertical alignment; otherwise, the weight of the engine will cause the lifter to angle/skew.

We have the original cabin aluminum tracks for the curtains but no sliders.  Are the sliders still made?

Cheers!

Oh that is beautiful. For some reason I always called it the mizzen ballooner. I don't have one, but I wonder if the sizing should make it higher cut, so that it has to balloon out, preventing interference with the backstays. Everything I've read seems to match your attachment points.

And +1 for the oxiclean. I used that and a pressure washer, but letting it soak would probably be less labor.

The backstay is without a doubt a problem. I've read the foot should attach on the windward rail, but I cannot figure out how to do that without wrapping around the stay.

Nice pics!

Surprised no one has chimed in on this yet.

I think you would have better results if you moved the clew more to windward to open the gap between the stay sail and the main.  But the main backstay looks like it might be in the way.

We have used Oxiclean in the bathtub a few times with good results.  Soak for a day and agitate frequently.  Rinse well with a hose and spread out or fly to dry.  Maybe not as clean as a loft can do but cheap and safe for the fabric.

Pearson 365/367 Yacht Club / Tried out the mizzen stay sail...
Last post by S/V Legacy - July 16, 2024, 03:41:50 PM
So I finally did it... I put up my mizzen stay sail. I'm not sure it was set right, attached at the right places, or was tensioned enough. I attached the foot to a deck eye at the base of the main mast, and pulled the luff somewhat snug. I attached the clew end through a block with cam lock, onto to the end of my mizzen boom. The winds were pretty light that day, maybe 5-6 knots at the time. I did pick up about .5 knot after raising the stay sail.

This sail is pretty dirty, or stained, not sure. Its not rotten though. Anybody have any good ideas on cleaning this type of sail fabric?

Thank you, P69, for sharing. That's a big job but looks like it's worth it for no more leaks.
