We have lived aboard and sailed a 365 ketch for several years now.  I often sail with just foresail and mizzen.  Balances nicely and I would miss being able to to that.  We also found that with a 135 genoa that we overpowered at 20 knots or so.  I switched to a yankee headsail and now find that works well in all but really light air where we are usually motorsailing anyway.  I don't miss the extra sail area but then again I'm never in much of a hurry.  Good luck.

The Rig-Rite site has a lot of information on the Pearson 365 spars that were used over time and have a lot of parts.  Be advised that they price them dearly.

Our refit is finally complete and the list was extensive.  I can't believe we were able to get all this done since Aug.
New Chainplates
New Standing Rigging and halyards
New Harken MkIV unit 2 roller furler
Replace 90% of all the running rigging.
New wiring in both masts along with new steaming and masthead lights and new floods on both
Rebed all deck hardware
Stripped and varnished cabin sole and all interior wood
Cetol cockpit combing and hatch boards/trim
new Cal air conditioner water pump
new kyrocera 140 watt panel & upgraded to Bluesky MPPT controller
myriad of other minor repairs like impeller change, engine coolant flush and fill, bilge pump float switch replaced, and on and on.

After 6 years aboard the only things left to change out are the original Westerbeke and the fuel tank.  Both of which, I hope, are good for another year at least.

After a final rigging check we will head south this week.  Hope to see ya'll in the Bahamas this winter.

Mine is a 1980 ketch.  Spars by Metalmast.  No 8348 Teardrop on Rigrite.  Rigrite has a lot of original Pearson parts  but they really think highly of them.  I was looking for an original mast boot.  Price from Rigrite is $129.00  Ouch!  Back to making my own.

Chandlery / Hood Roller Furler
August 21, 2013, 05:15:50 PM
Drogon, our 1980 365 ketch, is getting new standing rigging and a new headsail furled.  I have the original Hood Seafurl C with forestay in good working order along with a Shore Sails 135 genoa with #8 luff tape to fit for sale.  I had the sail up on an earlier post before we knew we were going to replace our Hood furled.  Now I want to get rid of both.  $300 or best offer for the sail and furled or just the sail if you prefer.  I'm in Oriental NC for this refit if you are nearby.  Shipping is probably not in the cards for the furler so this is a pick up item.   I can ship the sail.

Thanks for the thoughts.  I have the chainplates out now and they look pretty good on surface inspection.  Could find no water intrusion.  So another question for those of you who have replaced chainplates.  Mine all had slight bends, I assume to point the plate directly to the mast attachment point.  Did yours all have bends?  I have seen no mention of this on the chainplate discussion pages so assumed they were all straight.

The sticks are down on Dragon and I'm getting ready to do a good bit of work.  I am going to replace at least some of the standing rigging for sure.  Does anyone know what grade ss wire was used on the 365 ketch?  302, 304, or 316?  I do not want to lose rig strength by going with 316 if the original was 304 as I suspect it may have been.

Airlock is a good try.  Also as a though check the thermostat.  Could be stuck partially open.  Check to see if the engine is running a little hotter than usual.

I have a friend with a Pearson 30 who is looking for original spreaders.  I know that some company bought up the Pearson equipment and stock when they went under.  I saw it once on this site but can't find it.  Anyone know?

Thanks

Hi Francis,
Apologies for the delayed response.  We are refinishing the cabin sole and I haven't been online for a few days.   Here are the particulars.

On the 365 ketch
distance from the top of your forestay to foredeck is 41'  = I
distance from forestay chainplate to mast is 15' = J

On this sail
luff is 38' 8''
foot is 20' 11''
leach is 36'

I don't have a sail bag for this sail.  I will box it up for shipment.

If this works for you then I will sell it for $400.  You pay shipping.  You can e-mail me directly at rc_norton@hotmail.com or call 850-556-7239.  Give me your e-mail and I will send pictures.

Hope it works for you.

Chandlery / Shore Sails 135 Genoa for sale or trade
July 28, 2013, 12:04:32 PM
I have a Shore Sails International 135% genoa that I don't need.  The sail is in good condition with 65%-70% of it's life left.  The sail stitching is good with no breaks.  It has burgundy/black sunbrella that needs re-stitching or replacing.  The sunbrella is good but faded and some stitching is coming loose in small areas.  No holes or patches in either the sail or the sunbrella. I will sell but would prefer to trade for an asymmetrical spinnaker and sock in similar condition.  Any interest?  I will happily send photos if you e-mail me.  rc_norton@hotmail.com

Chandlery / Shore Sails 135 Genoa for sale or trade

I have a 135% Genoa built by Shore Sails International that I don't need.  The sail is in good condition with probably 65% -70% of it's life remaining.  No holes or patches.  Good stitching.  The sunbrella is burgundy/black pattern and is faded.  The sunbrella should be replaced as some stitching is coming out but aside from the fading has not holes and apperars sound.  I will sell it outright but would prefer to trade for an asymmetrical spinnaker and sock in similar condition.  Let me know if you want to see pictures and I will e-mail them to you.  Any interest?
