Hi Risto,

In the past I could see 60-70 amps from the alternator at the link battery monitor after a day or two sailing. If your not seeing that check the fuse on the alternator output terminal. Also the batteries have fuses. The instructions and set up info for the Xantrex regulator should be on board but if not you can find them online. It's adjusted with a magnet to set the switches.
The alternator charging system is pretty simple. alternator wired to the battery plant and an echo charger to the start battery.
Check all fuses and cables
regulator working?
alternator output?
If I think of anything I missed I'll get back to you.

Hi Risto,

I'm really happy Sol will be well looked after and sailed not just sitting in a marina. Please email me with any question you may have. I'll be cleaning out the garage and if I find any spare parts for the boat I'll ship them over or maybe we could meet up somewhere if we go to the boat show in February?
This site has been a priceless resource, really nice to talk to others that have been there done that.

Pearson 365/367 Yacht Club / Moving on and mad ramblings

Moving on and mad ramblings,

Sol our 1981 Pearson Cutter or 367 has been sold. Just wanted to thank everyone for their support over the last 10 years that I have been the care taker of Sol. It has been a strange time this last 3 or 4 months since we started to consider a new boat. I thought of her as my last boat but my wife really likes to invite everyone to come sail with us. And a second cabin started to look like a great thing in a boat. Our search started with lots of 1980's vintage boats as they were in our price range and a lot of them built really tough like the Pearson's of that era.
We fell in and out of love with several boats, the Caliber 47 was first but when we looked at one it was just too big and was a budget buster. Then we looked at the Caliber 40, nice boat but just a little to plain vanilla. No real emotional response either way, great boat but not the one. Next was a Tayana 42. On paper it looked great, big heavy and very salty looking. We found an owner that would let us look at one. Nice boat but too dark and cave like inside for my wife. We looked at a Morgan/Catalina 45 CC and it was great on the inside, huge too huge and the lines just didn't appeal to me. We found a Morgan 44 that was very nice and it was a contender but sold before I could do any serious research on the model. A Hylas 44CC caught our eye and if it had been in better condition it could have been our next boat. The problem with most is that they needed a refit after 30+ years of use. After refitting Sol I knew how much time and money that would take. I'm getting close to cutting the dock lines and cruising not working for years to get another boat ready.
My wife and I really liked the look of a Nauticat 43. Lots of space and big raised salon area with lots of light. We considered it for a bit but again another project boat and more of a motorsailer.
While at a local boat show we saw a Jeanneau 43 Deck Salon. Carol loved it. I have to say I thought it was a sexy boat but not a cruising boat. Well after a bit of research I found that the 43 had been successfully cruised by many. with several crossing oceans. Access to the water and fuel tanks is great, no pan blocking access to the hull. Easy to add a fuel tank or replace one of the 3 fifty gallon water tanks for a fuel tank. Tons of storage, engine is easy to get to and hey it's a 2003 model so all the systems are fairly new. Sails fast but not as comfortably as the Pearson but that's a trade off I'm willing to accept for now as the livability at anchor will be great. So if the survey goes well we will be the owners of Dragonfly a 2003 Jeanneau 43 DS.
I'm gong to miss Sol, we worked really hard to make her a great boat. I hope the new owners find this site and don't talk too harshly about any of my shortcomings in refitting Sol.

Please forgive this long and rambling post, just needed to get it out.

Sol has sold. Not sure how I feel about that, never thought we would sell her until we and her were wore out. But time to move on to a newer bigger boat.
A big thanks to everyone for there help and support while I learned to sail and refit Sol.

Well never thought I would be selling Sol but here we are. After a great summer in the San Juan's my wife wants a bigger boat.

more additions to "the list"

replaced the 40 gallon fuel tank for two 20 gallon plastic tanks
new stay sail and furler
Xantrex 2000 watt inverter charger
bottomsider cushions
new counter tops

I think I may be forgetting something.... oh well I'll add it on later.

Now that my wish list is almost checked off and now we are considering selling Sol for a larger boat. My wife is really wants a second cabin for guest. I really like one cabin and temporary guest but as they say happy wife happy life!

I got back to Sol and found that the bolts on the port side of the v-drive were loose! Problem solved.
Thanks for all the great info, learn every time I start a new project.

Thanks,

The boat was pulled out of the water and moved. No problems with the shaft I was present when it was hauled.

After moving Sol to the San Juan's we have a lot more vibration from the engine. I read that any time you move a boat it should have the prop shaft realigned. I also read that motor mounts need replace every 7 to10 years.
Has anyone out there changed out your motor mounts? And did it make an improvement? Did you use Westerbeke mounts or an aftermarket? Any insight on mounts or alignment of the v-drive would be appreciated.

Yes the damage was caused by the lifting strap. I cut out the damaged pieces and it looks like I can salvage the top part. It won't be great looking but the entire toe rail needs replaced someday. So after I pay for the move I'll start saving for some new teak. The trim on the side of the hull is toast so I'll make a new one and call it good. Thanks for the replies.

Well we had Sol pulled out of the lake and the toe rail was damaged. Any idea where I can find an off the shelf replacement or will I need to make it?

Thank,

I ran across this site that list what they believe to be blue water boats. You can vote for your boat to be considered. So I voted for the 367 and the 365.

Just looking at this old post, the throttle works properly after the injection pump was rebuilt. Something to do with fuel leaking into parts of the pump where it should not. Mine had fuel leaking past the throttle control shaft.

I would say the bronze portlights from New Found metals. They look great and they all open.
And the new foam mattress.
