Working on the typical corroded mast and step on our '76 P365 Ketch here.  I had to cut off 4", and that's after a prior owner already shortened the mast by 2".  Nothing too complicated here, thanks to the helpful experience on the site, but my mast step fabrication plans do leave me with a question.  Shouldn't the mast step have slots for the mounting, as originally designed?

I'm viewing this as a three year live-aboard can't-claim-to-be-sailor, so mast rigging is still an academic topic for me.  It just seems providing some movement for the next re-setting/stepping of the mast (zero? rake), and allowing for later rake adjustment, would be a good thing.

Comments?

Tim,
I have my replacement Bomar hatches so when replaced (perhaps the item could move up on my list) I will have a rebuildable frame.  Still have a need?

Garner,
Find myself in your neighborhood....

I trekked SV Jeanie (1976/Hull #69) from south Florida to the Chesapeake last Oct. to experience living aboard in this wonderful cold weather.  Expect my home port (landlocked Grantham, NH), currently shown as my 'location' in the "list", should really be Annapolis, as we hope to be here for awhile.

Recently found my propane drain vent, at the bottom of the locker, hanging loose and not connected to its PLASTIC thru hull.  Hidden from a casual inspection viewpoint.

It has been replaced with a bronze thru hull and the area added to the annual safety check list.

Dale,
I can report hull #69 has no band.  However, reading what may lie ahead (SV Jeanie - new to me last fall - has yet to be fully inspected) I would like to sign up for the therapy sessions you gave up.

I have yet to play with this epoxy stuff - anywhere on the boat - and dread the thought of cutting holes here and there.  I envision bands, humps, horrible surface finish post my work so plan to start 'epoxy' fun inside the port water tank.  I see anti slosh baffles that may have at one time been epoxied to the bottom of the tank, now sitting about 1/2" above that.  How bad can I mess up the finish and shine in there!  :)

Back to the thread; I am installing a new windlass so will report at that time ('future - maybe later this month') what deck/core issues I find when drilling and filling up there.  I was thinking I had 3/4" solid fiberglass, guess not.

Dale,
Thanks for the heads up on the insides of that cabinet.   :)  Great photo. Will report my findings.
Right now job 1 is removal of bowsprit bolts that defy 'normal' procedures (Harbor F. cutoff tool next).
Then making template of bow mount bolt holes to have fabricator back drill new bow rail.

Original sink was way overdue for replacement so Lowes had a good width replacement, deeper as well, but lo, not the exact dimensions.  New faucet fits in 4" Faucet holes in sink, leaving holes in 'formica' behind the new sink.  Haven't figured out how I want to fix that; I do know the galley foot pump (now non-existent) supply head won't reach the sink from it's hole.  May not get life out of sink/faucet that 'boat' equipment would provide but sure looks/works better than OEM for now.  At least it claims it's "SS"

I ordered a shower valve replacement (Tub & Shower Diverter) from CamperPartsWorld.com

Out of town for several days; we'll see what it looks like tomorrow.  Did notice the feed lines can be reached from the 'medicine' cabinet behind the head sink/faucet.

Barry,
Thanks for the news of more 365's, Weymouth and the invite.  As I dig into our necessary maintenance items I hope to avoid "shipwrights" disease and have her together and sailing before long...i.e. February or so.  We'll watch the weather to see when Weymouth unfreezes!

Barry,

Thanks for the hello.  I'm in N.England (Grantham NH) from time to time.  Is your cutter up North here?  Interesting history there I bet; once a ketch now not a ketch.

I'm having fun still finding where lines and hoses and electrical connections connect.  Good news is the engine (a Nanni retrofit) got me from the keys to Lighthouse point despite a couple of years of neglected maintenance on all systems.  Mast step is due for 'the' fix, along with some bow repairs from my sudden docking in Ft. Lauderdale on my maiden trip from the keys.  Thank goodness for the teak in the pulpit - took a good deal of the impact.  Long story but dehydration and fatigue will be my excuses for that abrupt landing!

Rich,
With your help I'm finally on line here and have to add to older comments about what a valuable service you've provided to boat owners, Pearson and otherwise.

I am new to boats and this site helped convince me my initial 'old' boat purchase was a good one.  I've since learned many lessons (the hard way) and hope I can add to the knowledge base here.  I think I'll title most of my entry's along the lines of Flying magazines "I learned about flying from this".  I already have some confessions of poor judgement that might be evident as my questions about bow rails, pulpit rebuilding are posted!

I'm a do it yourself person for the most part so thank you to all who have shown me the many ways I can keep myself busy getting ready for the ocean crossing that may, or may not, happen....but will be anticipated none the less.  For now she's a great home on the water.
