Pearson 365/367 Yacht Club / Rendezvous, etc.

Doug & Andy,

We are in Annapolis and plan to leave in June for the summer in Maine.  We could be up for a rendezvous.

We went to Buzzard's Bay and back last summer.  To keep a little consulting business going I need cell and internet access.  We settled on verizon wireless pc card ("aircard", V620) for the PC which gave internet access every evening except for 2 nights in 2 months.  I have a little Radio Shack external antenna when the signal is low.  I am thinking of adding a cell amplifier and antenna this winter.

We added 12v only Frigoboat refrigeration with "keel" cooler 2 years ago and are very happy with it.  It is located in the compartment to starboard under the cockpit ladder.

Doug, tell me about wind generators...we will take down the mizzen in the early spring to add radar and fog horn for Miane and are considering an AirX.   And where did you put solar?

Henri,

We did have a new dodger, bimini and connector made by Annapolis Custom Yacht Canvas (Dan & Donna) in 2004 and are very happy with it.  We saw their pictures of what they did for Marc & Alison LeBlanc's s/v Angel at the 2003 boat show.  They have also done another local P365.

I will try to get some pictures up.

When I removed mizzen boom bails I just put the bolt back in by itself.

I am also thinking about boarding ladders, since if we add davits and the dinghy is up we will not be able to use the stern ladder... and we will have to move the outboard sternrail bracket to the side (and be much more careful of pilings at gas docks).   So far we are towing or putting the dinghy on the bow with the spinnaker halyard and boom vang as tackle...but davits would be easier.

Henri,

We did it 2 yr. ago.  Raised boom a couple of inches and cut a little off the mizzen.  I am 6'0"...it worked well.  I gained a lot of space by eliminating the rigging to run the mizzen sheet to the mast.  I replaced the wire "Y" at the stern with a boom vang with jam cleat and a single pad eye amidships on deck.  Have sailed with this for 2 years and it works great and eliminates the overhead space taken up by the blocks under the mizzen boom.  Never any trouble using the jam cleat for the mizzen sheet and it can be handled by the helmsman without going forward.  I also added a snap shackle at the lower end above the pad eye on deck which allows the use of the mizzen boom and vang/sheet as a tackle to raise the dinghy outboard to the stern rail bracket ... and also I can unsnap the sheet and move the boom to the side when anchored and use the centered stern swim ladder without the sheet in the way.

I have 2 URM-1s and the chain locker/forpeak has a divider in the middle, chain on one side from the Simpson Lawrence hause pipe and rope on the other from a second hause pipe (which has a cover)....the 2 anchors 35 CQR and 22 Danforth fit ok on bow.

Pearson 365/367 Yacht Club / Dinghy davits

My P365 came with the Pearson stock davits when we bought her in 2003. They looked flimsy.  I tried my Dyer dink on them once and they were terrible, very unstable.  I had a yard cut off the holders for the brackets on the stern rail.  I put the davits up for sale at Bacons in 2005 and I think I saw another pair there.  I do not think mine ever sold.  I have a rib inflatable which I hoist with the spinnaker halyard and boom vang tackle to the foredeck, but my wife would like davits.

I had this same decision in April 05.  Saw several P365s with stainless bracing and also looked at cutting off the wood at the rail.  Ended up removing all of the wood (and repairing rotten deck core underneath).  We installed two URM-1s at the Hartge yard in Galesville, MD.  We have a 35# CQR on chain and a 22# Danforth on rope-chain and a Simpson Lawrence 2 speed hand windlas.  This has worked great for the last 2 seasons, including 2 months to Cape Cod and back from the Chesapeake last summer, anchoring almost every night.
