My 365 has two 20lb propane tanks in the aft locker.  They are horizontal tanks.  There is a fiberglass floor & walls that seals it from the rest or the boat , it appears to be a factory style install, or, a very good custom install.  It's vented out the transom. The remote solenoid, regulator and pressure gauge are all inside the locker.  I can go for months without a refill when cruising.

I have used the interlux nonskid beads on a one of my previous boats also.  It does work well.  I used it with Interlux Brightside one part paint.  Has the small diamond pattern been filled in after it's been painted?  That's been my concern, I don't want the pattern to be filled in by the paint.

Pearson 365/367 Mechanic Shop / diamond non skid
May 28, 2011, 10:35:29 AM
Hi All
The diamond non skid on my 365 needs refinishing.  There are several swirl areas that look like someone laid the gelcoat up like they were waxing a car. Plus being almost 35 years old it's lost it's non skidness. Has anybody painted their deck?  If so, did you add the non skid powder to what ever paint you used.  I'm wondering if adding the non skid would fill in the small diamond pattern. And, just painting it would make it look better, but probably more slippery when wet. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks for the links.  I am going to explore the fuel tank option.  Going to do some measuring.....I'll let hyou know what I come up with.

I think the previous owner did the same thing to the galley in my boat to get the Nanni in.  I noticed a cut out in the same area.  He put it back together... I'll have to look at it good again.   I am determined to figure out some way to improve the front access.  I posted the same question when I bought the boat last year.  I go only one response.  That owner did something too radical for me.  He relocated the fuel tank in the sallow bilge.  He cut out the cabin soul to do it.  Now he can probably sit in front of the engine.  I am going to if there's room for your 2 fuel tank idea.  I still like the idea of access through the cockpit floor.  I can do most jobs myself, but if I do that, I may want to have a pro glass guy do the cutting and make the removable pannels.  Will keep you posted.
Thanks for the response.

I had to replace my water pump too.  I did something similar to you, but didn't lay on the fuel tank... no room there.  The previous owner repowered the boat with a Nanni 37.5 HP 4.150.  He also replaced the fuel tank with a custom 53 gallon one.  I think that made distance between the tank on my boat even tighter than most 365's.  My problem is belt access to the alternator.  This is  complicated by the fact that there is a Sea Frost refrigerator compressor belt mounted in front of the alternator belt.... must be removed to replace the alternator belt.  I have thought about making access thought the cockpit floor with removable panels, like some early Island packets and Pacific Seacrafts have.  The Mizzen mast complicates this.  Your idea of the fuel tank relocation is a good one.  I wonder if would leave enough room to get at the rudder post. I also thought about cutting out some of the bulkhead behind the stairs, where the top removable piece is.  This way you can get your body in better from the back side.   Lots of wiring located there on my boat.  Just some thoughts.  I'm in my 60's and not as agile as I once was.

Has anyone done anything creative to their 365 to improve access to the front of the engine?

I've installed davits on my 365.  Just make the davits your are considering have enough reach to clear the swim ladder when raising and lowering the dink.  I've got some St Crorix on my 365, but have also had Kato and Forespare on some previous boats.  All are good davits.
Installation is pretty straight foward.  The most difficult part is contorting in the cockpit lockers to install the washers, and nuts.  I couldn't use the backing plates that came with the davits because it was impossible to line up the 4 bolts in the position I was in.  I wound up using large fender washers instead.  Davits are a great addition, if you get some you won't regert it.

Pearson 365/367 Yacht Club / FRONT ENGINE ACCESS
May 03, 2010, 03:02:06 PM
I just bought a 1976 365.  It has been repowered with a Nanni/Kabota 37.5hp diesel.  It also has a newer fuel tank.  Access to the front of the engine where the belts and waterpump are is very tight, between the tank and engine  Has anyone ever made an  access panel or panels in the cockpit floor, on either side of the mizzen mast to gain better access?
