It looks like I've got a three blade 17 x 10 on mine.  Power is not a problem, but it's fairly random which way the stern will go when I start off in reverse.  It helps to push the boat in the right direction first.

I don't seem to be on that list:

I'm about to do the same repair.

Dale: did you use a EDPM Rubber Bulb Seal Gasket like on this page:

http://www.mcmaster.com/#epdm-rubber-bulb-seal-gaskets/=d3pzl8

??

I'll head over to the boat and check out the shape and size.  My memory is 9/16" wide, and half round.  I think I can figure it out, but any details about what you used and how it worked would be appreciated.

Thanks,
mz

Thanks.

I'm going for the new one.  I think the old one might be original to the boat, so it seems like a good time to replace.

I have a quick heat exchanger question.

While tightening the clamp on that holds the cap on my heat exchanger, I managed to deform the shell of the exchanger.  In other words, while trying to stop a small-ish leak, I created a big one.

Does anybody know if this kind of damage is repairable?  Or maybe, after 35 years, I should just be getting a replacement.  If that is the case, any recommended vendors?

Thanks,

Are the cushions still available?  I'm not really sure what a reasonable offer would be, but it would have to include shipping to San Francisco.  What condition are they in?

Thanks,

Where my boat is berthed, they let me get away with 38' (36' slip + 2' overhang allowed) *if* I took the anchor off the bowsprit.  The mizzen boom also adds a little length, so I think they were doing me a favor.  40' seems a touch long.

Hi-

Does anybody have any experience or opinions about lazy-jacks?

It seems like Zeno was rigged for lazy-jacks by a previous owner.  The hardware (cheek blocks just below the spreaders, eye straps on the boom) is in place, although no lines. It would be a minor thing to make up the proper lines, and I'm as lazy as the next jack.  On the other hand, I haven't found the main to be too difficult to handle and I like to keep things simple whenever possible.  Are these things going to be another source of chafe and annoyance?

Just ordered a pair (I think) over the phone, for the same price. I'll post some notes once they arrive.

They arrived, fit perfectly and were an easy and nice upgrade.  Anybody know of an LED stern light that's just as easy?

I did find a thread on sailnet that complained of this problem, and poor service from Globe.  It's hard to evaluate these things some times, but in this case I decided to go with the Sherwood Impeller Kit.  (The pump is a Sherwood F85)  Even if you could run your water pump for 15 minutes dry (Globe's claim), it seems like the impeller would be the least of your worries at that point.

Thanks for saving me some $ on a useless puller.

I'm in the midst of tackling this same problem: water in the V-Drive.  Same cause, perhaps... the boat sat for a long time with water in the bilge before I bought it.

The oil cooler seemed to be fine, but I replaced the o-ring and resealed it with RTV to be cautious.  It is much easier to get all the watery oil out with the heat exchanger off.  So far, things look good.  But, I haven't been able to run the engine very long for other reasons.

Thanks.

You'll find me in the mechanical thread for the near future.  (V-drive, Exhaust Elbow, Raw water pump...)

I'm replacing my old impeller, and I have a couple of water pump questions.

• Having fairly mauled the screws getting them out, I'm thinking of replacing the pump cover with a Speedseal.  Anybody have any experiences with those?  There's an expensive one, and a very expensive one. I've read mixed reviews.

• Is there enough space between the tank and the impeller to squeeze in an impeller puller?  If I have to pull the whole pump, that will nullify my previous Speedseal question.  I'll just get new screws and do it the old-fashioned way.

Any other suggestions?  I'm about to order some Globe impellers, as per Nigel Calder.

cheers,

Michael

Hi all-

I just took possession of Hull #123, soon to be rechristened S/V Zeno. I'm sailing out of Oakland, CA; berthed in Berkeley.   I've got a list of projects, and questions, a mile long. Thanks for the great forum.

best,

Michael
