Pearson 365/367 Mechanic Shop / Replacing Shift Cable

I need to replace my shift cable. I am wondering if this is a job I can do myself or one better left to a professional. If it is a job I can do myself does anyone know where I can find the parts?

If it isn't a job I can do myself, is the $1000 estimate I got from the first professional too high?

I should have been more specific. I was actually talking about dry winter storage, so there is no need to round up to the next slip.

Does anyone know what the total length of the 365 is?  My Marina is charging me for a 40 ft. boat because they say the bowsprit is 3.5 feet. I am not near the boat and can't verify that it is accurate.

Problem fixed. For some reason I wasn't able to prime the fuel hoses until I tried cranking the engine with the starter. After that the electric pump did its job and I bled the engine normally.

All is well and I think I will congratulate myself with a drink at the bar for not having to get a mechanic.

Alright, I have spent the day tracing the fuel line from the tank to the Racor and I haven't found any clogs. Blew into the fuel tank and heard bubbles and blew threw all of the high pressure hoses to the racor filter - all was fine.

I still can't prime the racor with the electric pump or the manual pump. Any more ideas?

I do have an electric valve where the line comes out of the tank. It is in the "overide" position. I will try the other position.

As a was entering a cut in the reef in the engine surged and died. I was able to sail in and anchor safely, but I am having trouble fixing it.

I replaced the Racor filter and tried to prime it with the inline electric pump, but no fuel came out (yes, the valve is open). Is it possible that the line picking up the fuel from the tank has been clogged? How do you remove the fuel line from the tank and is it advisable?

There was considerable gunk when I changed the Racor. The boat had also been sitting for a month in the Bahamas before this happened.

11k for the engine and the install seems like a good deal to me. If the guy who wants to install it is named Joe D. send me a private message before you go ahead with it. I have first hand experience with his work.

I always thought using the mizzen gave me more weather helm. Picturing the boat as a lever with the keel as the center of lateral resistance, pushing on the mizzen will force the bow up into the wind.

That being said, the only time I have noticeable weather helm is when I have too much sail up. I would try taking a reef in on either the main or the jib.

The hull deck connection on our boat is both through bolted and screwed.  I thought they were only screwed together.  Was this a factory option?  Does anyone else have the same type of connection?

Pearson 365/367 Yacht Club / Half hull model

The broker who sold us our boat had a model of half a 365 hull mounted on his wall.  I thought it was pretty cool.  Does anyone else have one?  Anyone know where to get one?

I have 4 Walmart batteries under the floor boards for the house bank and a starting battery in the port locker.  The only downside I can see is if the boat were to take on a large amount of water.

I don't think that the lockers are much better ventilated than the area forward of the bildge and they are certainly warmer.

The little wall doesn't trap any water that I can see.  The area around the mast step and the flat area under the table trap more water.  If the boat is rolling or healing water won't stay behind the wall for very long.  I don't know what the original intent of that wall was.  Probably to keep things from rolling into the bildge.  It is a nice support for my batteries.

Here are instructions and pictures of my installation.

I am 6'4" and have been cruising on our Pearson 365 since October 1st.  I can stand in the cut out for the hatches and at the base of the ladder.  I can sleep in any of the bunks although there is some fighting for foot space in the V berth.
