Been around a lot of engines most of my life, gas/diesel. I agree with Dale. Fuel, air, spark equals combustion. After all of the new components in the rebuild I don't see you mentioning that the head or block was tested. A cracked block or cracked head will not allow a sealed combustion chamber. A $30 tool will tell you if you have a sealed combustion chamber. I would highly recommend you buy one and test your motor.

Dale, thanks for the heads up. If still available in the late winter/very early spring we were going to take a trip up to see her. Looks to be in nice, working condition.

If Massachusetts is not too far, Snowgoose just dropped in price and Captain Q did a walkthrough video on YouTube. Didn't look like it needed much work.

I couldn't find a post regarding this: does anyone know the overall height from keel to the highest part above deck, less the masts? I ask this because it's a required question when filling out quotes for hauling over the road.

Thanks,
Alan

do a cylinder leak-down test for compression. you may also see if one cylinder is oily. that will provide more pieces to the puzzle.

post deleted so I assume it sold. Always late to the party  >:(

Another problem would be if the rings turned during handling installation and now there are slots aligned instead of off-set.

Was the block and head dye tested or pressure tested for cracks? My diesel truck motor blows black smoke all the time and it's covered in soot but burns no oil. I pity the fools behind me when that black soot covers their car when i smash the pedal  ;D

Hi Dale.

I think 28k is high. The Rockford Maine at 22k with a rebuilt engine is in my range. I did not see the Fairhaven listing so I'll check that one out. Thank you for the heads up.

Thank you for that post. I would be curious to hear how the 365 handles on the open ocean. Just so happens that my wife and I will be in Maine (from Buffalo area) in early September to vacation and there's a 365 for sale in Rockland, about an hour from where we are staying. If it's still available we plan on looking at it.

YouTube ADVENTURE ADRIFT had a new one made out of stainless(or aluminum- cannot remember at the moment) for their 367 when the same thing happened.
