Deja vu is for sale.  I am asking $49,500.  New bottom job was in March this spring.  Please refer any and all interested parties to my personal email address at <vroyster@comcast.net>.  I wish I could keep her, great boat, fantastic shape, health and age - well, time to move on.  Also - this was not on my short term plans - ergo -   over time, there has been over $39K re-invested in Deja vu to keep her in blue water ready status.  Would make a fantastic club racer / cruiser, or a good live aboard for someone.  $27K in various sails, sizes, jibs, genoas, plus dual station Ray Marine, new stove, etc. etc.  see list attached.

This Pearson community has been a fantastic group and support team.  I respect and truly appreciate each comment and reply posted.

Wishing you good seas and a steady breeze.

I think I do remember two aluminum stepped slots - I was told, they act like a kind of washer?   Mind if I pop a few pictures, then place them in this thread for review and comments?  If I thought I could just cut the old wires, clean and place new lead ends on wires, and then drill new holes for bolts, that would be a sweet and simple fix. Any reason I can't just do that?

FYI - just did a new bottom job on Deja Vu, 3 gallons of SeaHawk, two good coats, bottom was in great shape, almost too good to be true,,,, been 3 years.  Installed new temp and oil sending units with new Stuart matching gauges, running plus 50 on oil pressure, this is good news, thought I had a problem.  New thermostat, and engine wise, I think I am finally dialed in correctly.
NOW - new concern,,, of course.  I noticed the ground wires on the mast step area are very corroded, almost no heads on the bolts.  What is the best way to repair and replace these grounds?  I have no money left to pull the mast, so I need mast in boat repair method. Can I cut - aka grind - these old rusty ones off?  Drill out the old bolts, or I was told they might be lag bolts... and re-drill one over in size, tap and die?  Active project, could use some quick advice, please.

Thanks for the replies - ..if all else fails, read the manual???    In the Universal 5444 engine manual, it suggests / reads / that normal oil pressure at normal operating temp, running, can be 17 psi.  I am running Shell Rotella T 15w40 Synthetic.  A local 70 year old diesel marine mechanic at Middleton Marine, named Ray, suggested using a straight 40 weight for "older engines like mine" that it never really gets cold enough in Mobile to worry about viscosity issues.  He also said, unless it gets below 10 psi not to worry about it, that some of his larger Cat engines run as low as 7 psi...  Well, in my opinion, which is worth about .02 cents,  the mfg. made a recommendation for a reason.  So I am following those guidelines.  I am not sure I have a problem at all, if I am at those published numbers.  I just used to race short blocks and low oil pressure usually was followed by a nasty exit of a push rod or something fun like that...  On the other side of life, I found one more leak in the small storage area, next to the MAST and table area... I think it is coming form the cutter rig traveler?  You think?  Anyone want to come help me fix hat one?

Welcome to the land, or sea, of investing in pleasure and seeing,,, some return.  what I like most is seeing boats older than mine being used and surviving.  Makes me think one day I can actually use my boat for more than two days in a row,,, eventually...  Pretty boat, great venue.

Less than 20 hours on oil change, but a few months at dock to be fair and honest too. Also, I think I said 5.5 it is 7.5 qts oil from the Model 5444 manual.

If in doubt, refer to engine manual. Operations  Rating was 17 psi at normal engine temp on a model 5444.  Go figure. I will take notice though at slowest idle RMP seemed a little less but not 100% sure.  I will check again next time I take it out for a short ops run.

We just finished our very first over night on the hook at Dauphin Island.  Sailed down, 30 miles or so, 13 to 16 knots S.S.West winds, sweet ride !!!!  Love this boat.
However, three days later with a pending weather change and wind shift to due south, so we simply motored back.

As always, engine start oil pressure at cold was 40 psi.  With short runs in the bay to cut off engine and sail, would get down to 25 or 30,,, This time, as she warmed and got under a load went to 30, then by an hour later, 25, then another hour to 20, all at a casual sweet spot of 1700 RPM where we were doing 5.6 to  6.0 knots steady while pulling our AVON behind, with following seas of 3.5 to 4ft.  As we hit about a 3.5 under way hour mark I noticed my oil pressure now under 20 and 17.  I got nervous except the engine temp was a steady 160 degrees and never moved.  At almost dead idle at the dock, very little oil pressure... forgot to note exactly, wind, dock, wife, kids,  need to bail dog from vet.....

When 'I read "P69 POSTs "it seemed his was there, but now seems running at 35 PSI?  I would like to use the boat for a full summer and try to get by with these short day sail trips to local areas.  But, I don't want to blow an engine either.  I also have issues with knowing the correct amount of oil capacity for this engine. 5444 manual says 5.5 I put that at oil change this winter, dip stick says low, or better said, just not full. I added about 3/4 of a quart at anchor just to see what effect it had on the dip stick levels,,, not much.

Any comments here would be appreciated... love this site, very helpful, very informative. Verne - Deja Vu 367

Happy to help a little here, as I hear your frustration. I have a BOMAR High AMP Alternator.  HOWEVER, if you "think" your current alternator has failed, some are in decent enough condition to just be rebuilt.    My BOMAR was rebuilt about 5 years or more ago and I have had no issues with it what so ever. Look around, find the closest boat yard that does large engine boat repair, like on Bertram or Viking or even Ocean Yachts type boats. These mechanics will know a reputable alternator shop. Go bring that shop a dozen doughnuts, sit, ask, learn.  Best $10.00 you will spend.  Readers are correct, tons of options.  50 AMP , 100AMP.  BOMAR, other brands.  Also - inspect your mounts, and have extra belts.  If you replace it....have a reputable mechanic make sure the alignment is correct. If you are off a bit, you will eat belts and ware out front bearings.  If you need more, email me direct at <vroyster@comcast.net>.

So, this is a little late for a reply.  But, I am have been a trifle busy and lacked focus on mutual communications. Let me just say, for the record, having not even taken an overnight trip yet on Deja Vu our 367, this reading made my day. I want to eventually take her down to the Turks and Caicos to Provo, where I got married on the beach in I think it was Grace Bay or Grace Beach.  Looks like she will get me there if I study up and get some time to know her and improve on seamanship.

Were these KATO Davits the design that slide into the existing stern rail slots?  If so, does anyone have contact data and a part # or SKU#?  Verne from Deja Vu

Well, after several months of work, I am finally happy to say, I only have two very small topside leaks, one in the port side galley window area and one in the starboard bow in the V birth area.  Dime size drips in hard rain.

Replaced a heat exchanger, batteries, fixed some problems with bilge pumps, alternator, amp gauge, and some other more trivial items.  Ergo, I bought an older used boat.  But the bones are in great shape and she sails like a dream.  Compared to my Catalina 30 or Catalina 36, I feel like I am in a boat that if a storm slipped up on me at sea, I would survive,,, or the boat would.  Still need to put some new Teflon wicking in the stuffing box, dripping a little too much too fast,,then I think I am through for the summer.  Maybe pull and paint the bottom in the fall.

So, duplicate question -from another area on this site - anyone know where I can source some slip in davits that fit the stern rail slots?  <vroyster@comcast.com>
