Island Jade needs a boarding ladder. I searched the archives and found some ideas concerning having one built, but I'm curious about what you have done about boarding ladders. I'm 6'2" and 270# so I need a substantial ladder ;D What is your preference? Stern mount or rail mount? If you have bought a ladder that is working out well, let me know the make and model or better yet, post a photo. I appreciate your interest in getting my big self back on board ;D

As the original stern ladder is cr@p, I bought a 5 step ladder from West Marine and mounted on the port side. It cost about $200. It's all welded stainless and robust. Get the 5 step as it extends about 2 feet into the water and you can easily take and swim and get back on board no worries. The ladder comes with permanent mounting plates and is easily removed for storage. It fits nicely in the aft lazarette. It also makes a nice place to board from the dinghy. Cheers.
I am 6-3 200#. I had another made to Maruska's design and couldn't be happier. It is strong, easy to climb, and is deep in the water for easy access. However, the trade-off for a stern ladder is access when using davits, But a side ladder is a stowage problem. Pick your poison. Jim
