Title: Broken Reef Block
Post by: Dale Tanski on August 08, 2011, 10:49:13 AM
One of my reef turning block sheeves split on my main boom this weekend. It appears that the sheeve was made in two pieces and glued together.  Go figure, after 35 years it failed.  Wouldn't hurt to inspect what you have because when it fails the reef line gets wedged in the split sleeve.  I ended up turning my own out of black delrin this morning, and I made two so I could replace the 2nd reef block sheave while I was at it.
Good Sailing...

Glad I made two sheeves.  I changed out the broken sheeve and disassembled the 2nd reef point block.  That one looked good until I got it a part.  It too was in two pieces.
