Title: Hatch gaskets
Post by: Randy on July 06, 2011, 07:43:30 PM
I think this has been visited before but can we still get gasket material for the two hatches? Mine are leaking and don't want to spend $ if no proper gasket material available, what are best swap outs in new hatches? Cheers.

Randy,
When I rebuilt my hatches I bought the gasket material from McMaster Carr.  I went with EPDM because it is so weather resistant. Fit fine and cost less than Bomar stuff.  If you need I will look for the exact number.
Check out New Found Metals new stainless deck hatches.  I am drooling over theses.

I'm about to do the same repair.

Dale: did you use a EDPM Rubber Bulb Seal Gasket like on this page:

http://www.mcmaster.com/#epdm-rubber-bulb-seal-gaskets/=d3pzl8 (http://www.mcmaster.com/#epdm-rubber-bulb-seal-gaskets/=d3pzl8)

??

I'll head over to the boat and check out the shape and size.  My memory is 9/16" wide, and half round.  I think I can figure it out, but any details about what you used and how it worked would be appreciated.

Thanks,
mz

Yea, which one I can't recall.  Let me look around a bit as I had some left over.  I used a weatherstrip adhesive in a tube (yellow goo) which has worked well.  I will look for that as well, it was from NAPA.

I have yet to uncover my left over stash, which is unfortunate because I need 3 or so feet for my head hatch.  You are correct it is 9/16" and round.  The McMaster Carr stuff was more gooshy than what came off the hatch but I attribute that to age.  The more flexible gasket EPDM seems to seal and pull down easier. I will keep looking.  Sooner or latter I will find it.

Randy,
Found it.  It is 1/2" diameter but worked just fine on my hatches.
I purchased 100ft and have what is left.  How much do you need?

Super. I need enough to do the two main hatches? 8- 10 feet? I can measure and let you know.

Dale,

If you have enough left over I am another taker for the two hatches on POG.

Dale,

It looks like 10' will be more than enough for the two main hatches. Can I send you my address in an email?

Cheers,

This is for DALE, the master of the gleaming MARUSKA...

I am back in California and ready to fix my hatch gaskets if you still have the stuff.  Let me know and what you want to be reimbursed for it.  Perhaps  best to use my personal email rather than cluttering this site.

Best, Carl
