Title: Datamarine Sensors and Raymarine ST60 Instruments
Post by: egoodhue on June 21, 2011, 09:01:54 PM
Has anybody coupled the original datamarine transducer/speed wheel with ST60 instruments? I am going thru the hit list of things to update and with the boat in the water it will be impossible to pull the old sensors. The boat had been sitting on the hard for 7 years and the datamarine instruments are non functional. I would prefer to install new instruments rather than going to DMI to repair them. They do a good job as I had repair done on my san juan 26 depth but it is time for new instruments

Thanks

The original sensors will probably not work with the new instruments. One thing I will pass on- when I replaced our instruments, the new transducers were bigger than the originals. I drove a rubber plug in the holes so that I would have something to center the hole saw. It worked great.

When we were upgrading Matchmaker we added a chartplotter with sonar capability and I put in a 'shoot thru the hull' type transducer from Airmar.  It works fine once you find a place onboard to mount it properly ( not easy ).  On a whim I hooked up the old datamarine thru hull transducer to a Uniden depth sounder that I bought as a backup.  The old datamarine transducer works fine with the Uniden.  Don't know about Raymarine.

I installed a in-hull P79 from raytheon to tie to the new ST60 depth until I get the boat out of the water and install a thru hull type.. Installed it port side in the small cutout forward of the mast and so far it has been intermittent in readings while at the slip. I will probably have to relocate it. The older datamarine gave me false readings of 26' in a 6' deep slip.

thanks for the inputs from everybody
