Title: WTB: Portlight for the head
Post by: Bay Sailor on January 31, 2011, 07:11:30 PM
I only need the "plexi window" portion but I'd take the entire assembly if that available. Please let me know what you have.

Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

3 years after ordering new NFM ports for Sea Dragon, I am finally getting around to replacing the ports in Sea Dragon (OK I have not started yet but I really am going to do it this winter/spring). You are welcome to any or all of the parts when I have them out.. Sea Dragon has Beckson plastic ports (see below). Earlier 365's used a different (Bomar I think) port manufacture

Let me know if you are interested.

Garner,

Thanks for offering. The drawing at Beckson is the light that I have in my 1980 Sloop. There is one in the head, two in the forepeak and one above the hanging cabinet immediately forward of the port settee.

None of mine have screening although I assume on day-1 they did. It would certainly be good to have the screens. Do yours still have that "layer"? If not do you know if that is a diy project? Last, How much would you like to sell a complete unit for and how many do you have? Please send me a PM if you prefer not to bore others with details.

Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

Sea Dragon has five (5) Beckson ports two (2) forward two (2) midship & one (1) aft over the sink looking into the cockpit... When we bought Sea Dragon all of the screens were missing or damaged. over the next yea or so I purchased new gaskets and screens for all of the ports and one or two new lens. Fact of the matter is, I think, I have a few spare gaskets still in the package...

My "plan" is to remove and replace four (4) of the ports this winter... You are welcome to the any and all of the ports including the screens, just pay the shipping... If you are interested email (SailingSeaDragon AT aol DOT com), or PM, me your mailing address. I will box and send what ever you want as I remove them. You can then send me check for shipping once you receive the ports.

This is good... I may now have a deadline to work toward...

What you do not want, I will offer up to anyone else that wants the parts.

Garner-

Did you go with the Stainless or the Tri-matrix ports from NFM?

Kevin,

I am went with original stainless ports. I was more
comfortable with the traditional look.

If looking at Beckson, make sure you look at their specials page. I bought all 5 of my portlights for somewhere around 30 or 35 each because they were beige instead of the popular white.

I have replaced four of the five Beckson ports and have the the old ones but in all honesty would not give them away. They are just junk, can't see through them on a good day. I do have a couple of mozzie screens for anyone willing to pay postage.

I found buying two at a time didn't break the bank but radicaly improved the visibility and the look of the boat.

The one in the galley I intend replacing with a larger hatch.

My quest now is to find just one main cabin port to refurbish, on a one at a time basis. Overhaul one and replace it.  This way the boat stays dry and is still usable. Has anybody got one. I could return it if necessary afterwards.
