Title: Gauges
Post by: Leo on December 06, 2010, 12:06:12 AM

I'm moving my gauges and thought it would be a good time to replace them. When I went shopping I found them for a 10-180 OHM sender or a 240-33 OHM sender. What do I have on my 1981 Cutter???

There are "new ones" and "old ones", and they don't interchange. We had this problem when we changed engines. The rebuilt engine had updated sending units, but the boat had old style gauges. I swapped the instrument panels out and got the gauges that were with this engine in the boat. On our old instruments all the wiring connects with ring terminals. The connections on the instruments are studs with nuts. The new instruments use spade terminals.
I went out and got the panel with the old instruments- the tags are not readable, so I can't tell what resistance range they are. You might pull one of the gauges and see if the tag is readable.

I just ditched the electric oil pressure gauge and went with an old fashioned bourdon tube gauge $30 from the auto parts store.
