Title: Helm seat
Post by: RockysMate on December 04, 2010, 09:04:13 PM
When I need to motor and like to sit behind the wheel I am too low to see over the cabin top.  I have poor circulation in my legs and standing for long periods in one spot is uncomfortable to say the least.  Any ideas on how to best raise myself up, preferably with some sort of foot support.

We have a 7" helm saddle from C Cushions with the back. It works great. We found the 5" to be a little short. http://www.ccushions.com/marine.htm

Does your helm saddle sit directly on top of the aft lazarette?  Any attachments to the boat?  Do you have other cushions, especially back cushions, to make cockpit seating comfortable?

The saddle is not mounted to the boat, it sits on top of the lazarette. The back attaches with nylon webbing and buckles. It is pretty comfortable. We don't have any other cockpit cushions. Look on their site under cockpit accessories- they make all sorts of cushions.

They are about an hour away from us- we went and found them. They set up several sets of cushions in the office for us to try out.

we've got a 7 inch C cushion and it's perfect. Once it's on top of the cocpit cushions the first mate can see just fine.
She told me I could buy new cockpit cushions if I bought a helms seat for her. No problem!!!!
love em.

We use the 7" C Cushion as well and love it. One thing to note is that the finish on the closed-cell foam that they use, can be ruined by insect repellent, suntan lotion or any petroleum-based product. We managed to make ours hideous fairly quickly. They are a little difficult to keep clean as well. If your concerned with a perfect/clean finish, you might want to put a cover on it.

On a side note, we have the original helm seat in storage. If anyone is looking for one, you are welcome to it.

Best regards,
Stew

C- cushions are great. We have a 7" and love it. The first mate said I could buy new cockpit cushions as long as I bought her a helms seat.
No problem.
