Title: Headsail on P36 Cutter
Post by: brian chalk on May 07, 2009, 05:31:06 PM
I am wondering what size headsail the cutter owners use/recommend? I am getting ready to replace mine - a 130%. We sail in South Florida and the Bahamas, mostly in the summer when winds tend to be lighter.

My Cutter has a 90% Jib, which is the original design from Bill Shaw.  I personally wouldn't go any bigger than the 130%.  The boat balances perfectly with the 90% plus the stay sail.  I almost always use both sails in conjunction.   You can see pictures of my set up at this link.

Brian,

Sea Dragon has 110% which is the largest sail my sailmaker would build for a cutter... Below is a very nice link talking about the cutter rig, sail sizes, and use of the headsail with the staysail..
