Title: Looking for replacement sail track gates
Post by: BlameItOnBuffett on June 11, 2008, 02:05:14 PM
DO you know those gates that are near the bottom of each sail track on the main and mizzen, that keep the slides from coming out? Well, one of mine is missing, and my rigger has no idea where to find a replacement. Any ideas?

Hi Jim

Try the following they are not listing these on the web site but they may be able to help. Alternative you could take mine as a pattern to have one made!

http://www.rigrite.com (http://www.rigrite.com) has them.
try:
http://www.rigrite.com/Spars/MetalMast_ ... Gates.html (http://www.rigrite.com/Spars/MetalMast_Spars/MetalMast_Mainsail_Gates.html)

I recall they were expensive but they were "in-stock" when I ordered them last summer.

Now they're $99.  Perhaps I'll see if Port Supply has an alternative...

I need the main mast sail gate.  I do not know the manufacture (Pearson 365 ketch) of the mast.  Does anyone have an idea of the description I need to continue my search for the sail gate.  Has anyone had luck finding a replacement?

Mine is a 1980 ketch.  Spars by Metalmast.  No 8348 Teardrop on Rigrite.  Rigrite has a lot of original Pearson parts  but they really think highly of them.  I was looking for an original mast boot.  Price from Rigrite is $129.00  Ouch!  Back to making my own.

I used 4-5" wide butyl tape to seal the mast. Bought it as my local chandlery in a roll that cost about $40, only comes in black. Then I covered that with a white butyl tape that was less thick just to make it look better.  Sealed the track with silicone. Heavy thunderstorm right over the boat last night and the mast step is completely dry.
