My hood seafurl system has chronic halyard wrap and I've lost confidence in the system... and fear it may have compromised the head-stay at this point so I'm going to ditch it and just put up a wire headstay and have my sails recut for hank on.... I was planning to deep 6 my seafurl (since I don't have any place to dump it and figure it's biodegradable).  Where are you... your welcome to her (other than the shackles which I plan to keep) if you want her for spares....

I'm in Newburyport, MA.

I replaced the original Hood Seafurl (25 year old) system several years ago when I was unable to find a rebuild kit... I went with the Seafurl 5 after talking with the Hood customer service rep about parts.. Parts were no longer available, so they offered to sell me a new Seafurl for 1/2 price.... I ended up buying two....

Both have performed flawlessly for several years and I believe (hope) they will continue to perform for years to come.

I am not sure if this helps.

Atavist,

Sea Dragon is a cutter (367) not a ketch so the mast is taller and set further aft than the ketch version (see the link below for information on the configurations).

I worked directly with Hood to get the best (1/2 price) deal... The deal was if you owned a Hood system that was no longer supported by Hood, they would upgrade your system with any currently supported system (your choice) at half of list price. As part of the deal, I had to return the drum to customer support within 30 days of receiving the new system.

The salesperson was Richard Stark (Richard_Stark@pompanette.com). I do not know if he is still with Hood or not... You might also try calling Hood at 813-885-2182 to see if the offer is still in place. I upgraded Sea Dragon's Hood system in the fall of 2005.
