The engine fuel solenoid is located engine on top of tank. Has anybody had problem with this valve. I am trying to find a air leak in my fuel system. The problem is before the lift pump. I have replaced gasket in top of racor filter. Has anyone had same problem?
I replaced my fuel soleniod with a on/off valve....just one less "electric" thing to fail right when I need the engine most!
Rich,
The purpose of the electric fuel selinoid switch is to stop the flow of fuel in case you get a nick in the fuel line in a location lower than the fuel tank. If you by some chance get a nicked line the fuel can siphon out of your tank directly into the bildge. 48 gallons of diesel in the bildge......auto bildge pump...........don't even want to think about it. If you have installed a manual cut of switch, you must position it in the off position after each use. A simple cheap fix is to install an inline fuel check valve ($12.00) in place of the electric switch.
You are exactly right Randy....and diesel in the water in the marina will cost you...at least here in California! I have a valve positioned that I do manually turn off/on with each use of the engine to prevent just such a fiasco.
I'll post some photos when I get a chance.
