Below is an article from Sailing Anarchy worth reading... After reading the article click on the link at the end to see Bob Perry's take is on the what a "Pretty or Classic" sailboat should/could look like.... Let me know what you think.

Cruising Anarchy 36
It was one of those typical winter days on Cruising Anarchy when a few of us were pissing and moaning about the fact that there are no pretty production boats anymore. We were defining "pretty" by posting a series of pics of older boats from the '50's and early '60's. An S&S sistership of FIGARO had particularly caught the attention of the group. The boat had pronounced spring to the sheer, low freeboard, wide side decks, a shapely but simple cabin trunk and overhangs. There was just nothing about this boat that the group did not like. We felt this boat was the perfect example of what is missing from the current group of production boats.

Then I had an idea. "You guys tell me your idea of the perfect cruising boat and I'll put some drawings together". I had already survived the FT10m project that was born on SA so this basic approach did not scare me too much. Furthermore I liked the idea of a boat with what you could call "classic" styling. And here is what you have come up with - amazing really.

That was over 55,000 hits and many, many drawings ago. People stepped up with their skills and offered help in various areas. I assigned tasks to different people and soon we had what we call the WLYDO (world's largest yacht design office) producing a design. We even had a builder get involved very early on. That really fired up the group.

Probably the most amazing this about this exercise is that it never broke down into one of those typical SA shit fights. It tried to a couple of times but those who tried to introduce an attitude into the project or to turn the established direction of the project were quickly shut down in an effective and civil manner. "Sons" who at one early point slammed the CA door behind him vowing never to come back moved beyond that to become one of our most productive contributors and the man behind the beautiful 3D modeling work. The depth of knowledge available on SA is not to be underestimated.

I think the drawings speak for themselves. Is this a "real" project? It was always intended to be a "design exercise", just a way for some of us to have some fun on SA. But now with the help of ISAMBARD, our Midwest builder, we have a price and people are beginning to take a serious look at our little classic cruiser. Work on the design progresses and with any luck at all some day soon we will see the builder working on the tooling.

Well....I'll be....she sure looks familiar!
But.....I don't care for the underbody or the rudder that is just begging to be damaged.

Just last night I was looking through the new Sailing mag and thought that looks like a Pearson 365/367! Just a little less beam and updated rudder /keel.

cool....
