Title: Need Replacement Edson Helm Sheve and Bearing
Post by: SV THIRD DAY on January 22, 2008, 05:27:40 PM
I have a friend staying on my boat in La Paz and he was working down my "check list" prior to our Baja Bash at the end of February.  I got an email from him this morning that he located a problem with my steering system.  One of the bearings wore out and was the cause of some weird steering symptoms.  I am now in the need for a replacement bearing and a new sheve.  My friend said that the Edson pedestal sheve has a stamped label "a-450" but I'm not sure if this is the part number.  Is there any one out there that knows where to find replacement parts for the original Edson helm installed on the Pearson 365?  Specifically a new bearing and sheve?

Rich,

Call up Edson.  I have delt with them several times and have found that they have a huge database of part numbers that they can cross to your boat model and year.  At least they could get you a part number, then you may be able to find a used one.    Good luck!

Rich,

Did you locate the appropriate part from Edson? I have to replace my original Idlers and backing plate - they are corroded beyond repair - and I was wondering if you (or anyone) could point me in the right direction. Edson suggested a part 776AL, either 4 inch or 6 inch, with a backing plate, but i am looking for feedback on which one to order.

I haven't got to that project Yet, but it's on taps for this summer before the cast off.
