Title: Galley & head sliding shelf doors
Post by: S/V AMITY on January 29, 2020, 02:36:22 PM
Will be replacing the galley & head black plastic shelf slider doors with wood.  Am looking for wood finger-hole finishing rings.  See attached sample picture.  Anyone know where they might be available?

Other project now is to try freeing-up the four rusted bolts securing the mast step.  4 days soaking in PB Blaster and a power impact tool hopefully will do the job.   Cheers!

Wow... perfect!  Spent about an hour today with all sorts of word combinations trying to find them with no luck.  Will be fabricating new stained & satin varnished Luan sliders to replace the scratched & dinged plastic ones.  I may install several finger pull holes across the face of the new sliders behind the stove for easier reach and to allow for more shelf ventilation.  Also prefer the look of wood over black plastic.  Again, thanks & cheers!

Good luck getting the step bolts out whole.  Mine looked worse than yours but they didn't even think about coming out.  The heads tore completely off.  I just ground them down below the fiberglass with a grinder and epoxyed over them. Then sank new bolt holes with new bolts.  McMaster Carr is a good source for new bolts.

Yup, we have McMaster as a regular supplier for our business.  Its also a good resource, like eBay, for just poking around discovering what exists.  For the step, the heads on three of the four bolts are intact so hopefully an electric impact tool should get them out... maybe with some heat added.  The last bolt is headless so we'll have to sort that somehow when we get to it.  The slots in the fwd. end of the step may allow me enough room to drill a new hole in the lead just ahead of the busted bolt and have slot length enough to engage the new bolt.  We'll see.  Cheers!

I think you might find that the bolts that hold down the mast step are actually lag bolts that are directly wound into the lead of the keel.  On my boat that was the case.  When I replaced our step I went the same direction.

Dale is correct, theyre coach bolts
My step and the end of the mast were destroyed, so I had to cut 58mm off the end of the mast and create a step that recovered the height
then much larger coach bolts replaced the former and buttoned the thing down until the rig had to be tuned and the rig raked aft
